I Feel Much Safer Now

Cliff May points out that the CIA doesn't seem to know that the phrase "experienced suicide bomber" is an oxymoron. They also weren't aware of the provenance of Iran's new president.

This is hardly surprising. They also had no idea, back in 1979, that the Shah was in trouble. I recall a cartoon that showed two agents with CIA on their trenchcoats, in Tehran, amidst a street revolution. One is whispering to the other, "Psssttt...I hear that there's a problem in Iran." The one replies, "Quick, call President Truman."

I wish we'd had someone else to vote for in November.

I wasn't impressed by Mr. Mays analysis. After all, this particular CIA report doesn't claim or imply that there's such thing as "experienced" suicide bombers. After all, suicide bombers don't act in a vacuum. They need someone to bring them into Iraq, someone to train them and feed them, someone to gather intelligence about good targets, and of course, someone to make the bombs or IED's. Second, most of the domestic terrorists in Iraq don't use suicide bombers. Further, many of these groups have access to military knowhow from former soldiers of the Iraqi army. Given the proximity of terrorists, we have a fairly high risk to the US forces.

So why would Mays interprete this report in such a misleading and belittling way?

Having said that, as Mays noted, this wouldn't be the first time someone has leaked secret possibly truthful information in an attempt to change US policy.

LOL- I don't know if that cartoon does justice to the old OSS with "Wild Bill" Donovan under Truman. Back in those days they hired people who got the job done- no matter how weird they were.... look at Moe Berg!
Today's CIA seems so hung up on credentials and political correctness... they're probably just getting up to speed on that Noriega thing. :)
