Under Fire, Durbin Issues Belated Apology June 17th, 2005 WASHINGTON (APUPI) Amidst growing outrage at his comparisons of US troops to Pol Pot's regime, Nazis and Stalin's gulag, Illinois Senator Richard Durbin backed off from his earlier comments today, reading from a prepared statement outside his office that he hadn't meant to directly compare the situations: "I now realize that my comments unjustly slandered many people in southeast Asia and other places who were, like the Democratic Party, simply trying to create a better and more equitable society, and did not intend to compare what they did to the horrific atrocities that were occurring, and continue to occur, in Guantanamo. I wish to deeply apologize to those, like International A.N.S.W.E.R, who properly took umbrage at such an odious equivalence. I hope that this apology will finally lay this issue to rest." He refused to take any further questions. Posted by Rand Simberg at June 17, 2005 07:17 AMTrackBack URL for this entry:

DURBIN WATCH: CHENEY COMMENTS
Excerpt: Just received this e-mail from Steve Gill: Vice President Dick Cheney appeared this morning on Steve Gill Mornings in Nashville, Tennessee and was asked about Dick Durbin's comparison of U.S. troops at Guantanamo Bay to Nazis. The Vice President noted... Weblog: Michelle Malkin Tracked: June 17, 2005 02:09 PM

HOW, oh great oracle, is what Durbin said an apology? I have heard that twice on the TV this morning. He never apologized from what he said in that he maligned EVERYONE involved with Gitmo, from Mr. Bush to the lowest ranking FNG at the base. And he said he wanted to make sure people from Southeast Asia know what he "meant". We know what he "meant", he "meant" for our enemies to have even more ammo against the present administration. Durbin is an A$$, if Newt Gingrich had said this of the Clintonistas he would have been run out of D.C. on a rail!!! Uh..., Steve? I think you need to reread the post again. Pay particular attention to the language used and GO GET A CLUE!!! Gee Whiz. Doesn't anybody understand sarcasm anymore? Posted by Jim at June 17, 2005 09:22 AMUh, Steve. S-A-T-I-R-E, baby! Lighten up! BTW, no argument from me that Durbin is an A$$. In my book, he's now Turban Durbin as he is definitely someone who is aiding and abetting
Actually Durbin will probably rip that speech off if he sees it. Posted by ICallMasICM at June 17, 2005 09:38 AM"In my book, he's now Turban Durbin..." Heh. That's funny. I'm going to use that. Durbin's comments don't surprise me one bit given what has become of the left wing these days. Expect more and similar comments from him and others in the future. Posted by CT at June 17, 2005 10:21 AMI had heard the comments made by Durbin on the radio but saw them last night on TV. The guy was reading right off the cue cards. I wonder what ACLU lawyer wrote the brief! Posted by Ryan O'Hare at June 17, 2005 11:38 AMAh gulags. If only I could put the CEO of the local telephone de-facto monopoly in one. Must... resist temptation. WELL, WELL, WELL...I guess I have indeed lost my sense of humor on this subject. I am so sick of the Durbin, Pelosi, Kedwards, Dean crowd and their anti-American crap'ola, that I can no longer see anything even satirical in any of this. Thanks for kicking me BACK into the game. If I let them get to me that bad, they win!! So $crew' em. ALSO, on the subject of the far left, We hear on the home front here in NC, that Lil' Johnny Edwards is already looking to 2008. The local news communists are all atwitter over it. He says he mistake was NOT letting the people know what he stood for. He then said we need to get out of Iraq and Afghanistan, put more people to work, spend more money on diversity training at the grade school level, and make a human sacrifice of anyone who worked in, or voted for the Bush administration. and make a human sacrifice of anyone who worked in, or voted for the Bush administration. That should reduce unemployment allright. Post a comment |
