A New Hand In The Cookie Jar?

Canadians should keep a close eye on Belinda Stronach, and not just for the obvious reasons.

She ain't pretty, she just looks that way. (obscure Canadian rock song title)

We've had Members of Parliament change political parties before (it's called "crossing the floor"), but rarely when the balance of power in Parliament was so close, and rarely with such blatant bribery associated with it. Besides, many Canadian voters tend to vote for a party, not for any of the candidates in their particular ridings; MPs who cross the floor end up betraying these voters.

IMO, a good way to avoid or defuse such a sleazy scenario in the future would be to force a by-election in an MP's riding when he/she crosses the floor. Let the voters in the riding decide if they want that MP to continue to represent them.

We Canadians have already established what she is, now we're just haggling over the price.

My take is that she isn't cheap.

Oh, she's cheap -- just in an exorbitantly expensive way.
