Another Lost Soldier
To quote someone else, heh.
Seriously, though, it is kind of amazing that there are still Japanese soldiers coming home from WW II after all these years. It was always a big story back in the sixties whenever one of these guys was found hiding out on some remote island (there was even a Gilligan's Island episode based on one--see number fifteen in the link), and that was only twenty years after the war. Now it's sixty.

The bad news side of this is that two Japanese soldiers held out for 60 years after WWII not wanting to stand Court Martial. Fear of change and fear of being caught doing the wrong thing are great motivators.
If 2 Japanese soldiers held out for 60 years for fear of retribution, John Kerry will keep HIS military records secret for at least 2000 years.

Just imagine how bad it could have been if at the end of WWII the Japanese government had NOT ordered the surrender of all it's forces. The nightmare of having to fight to the bitter end millions of Japanese troops was why it was so important to compel the Japanese government to surrender.

Couldn't have said it better Brad...It amazes me ach time we hear it. Call it patriotism, zealotry, or just fear. That kind of attitude would never been defeated with a small scale invasion. Nothing short of bombing each city to the ground then going in and killing those that remained would have ended the war. These are men still driven even decades after their last orders.
