More Hollywood Nitwittery

George, one of your progenitors in Hollywood once said, "If you want to send a message, use Western Union."

''The parallels between what we did in Vietnam and what we're doing in Iraq now are unbelievable.

Yes, I'd say unbelievable is exactly the right word.

''On the personal level it was how does a good person turn into a bad person, and part of the observation of that is that most bad people think they are good people, they are doing it for the right reasons,'' he added.

Of course, most lousy directors and hackneyed script writers think they're brilliant, profound and insightful.

I'll probably go see the movie, but only for the special effects, which is all that Lucas was ever really any good at.

Unfortunately, his whacky comments won't affect the mass quatities of ticket sales in the coming hours.

I did like the NASCAR sticker on the photo of Darth. Isn't that really what Tony Stewart is going for?

Later.

Are you kidding? I would much rather his nonsensical comments about his movies (which I can easily ignore) than if he kept sending me packages!

Honestly, though - I don't even really see his point. Is he trying to say that we are now a ditactorship? Interesting perspective, if so...

He once claimed the Ewoks represented the VC.

If I were a former VC, I would put a price on his head for that linkage.

There is some merit to the second quotation. Most bad people DO think they are good- and they tend to surround themselves with followers who believe it too. I don't think Saddam Hussein- or even Adolph Hitler- sat up at night thinking, 'what terrible, EVIL thing can I do the the world tomorrow?'.... they actually believed they were doing the right thing, for the right reasons. Quite scary, when you think about it.

You know, I must have forgotten the part where millions of Ewoks became refugees after "Return of the Jedi" because they supported the "wrong" side in the war.

As for anything else, you know you've got to be doing something dreadfully wrong if you have the approval of the guy who re-edited his previous work to show that Greedo Shot First...

Sometimes a movie is just a movie- maybe we'll luck out with this one.

I saw it today. It was awful. At the end, I felt like I was only glad that its over and they can't make it any worse.

Spoilers:

Any idiot could have provided a better script for the grand finale light saber duel. Compare the Luke Vader fight in ESB to lackluster duel in RoTS. In ESB there was tension, in RoTS, they fought a while and then had to end it so Vader jumped and missed.

What an opportunity lost. The duel could have had the tension of Vader growing angrier and Obi-Wan staying calm. The anger would give Vader strength but make him reckless. The recklessness would mean his end. Also, instead of leaving him on the edge of the laval pit to catch fire, they could have reprised the "come with me" scene at the end of ESB, with Obi Wan trying to retrieve Vader from the dark side after the had defeated him by offering his hand. Vader would have contrasted Luke by letting go and falling into the fire (and choosing the dark side). Obi Wan would then think Vader was dead and leave.

Even comic books have better scripts.
