Giving Them A Pass Again. And Andrew McCarthy is angry about it: The false report, according to the New York Times, instigated "the most virulent, widespread anti-American protests" in the Muslim world since...well, since the last virulent, widespread anti-American protests in the Muslim world — particularly in Afghanistan and Pakistan, where at least 17 people have been killed.Posted by Rand Simberg at May 17, 2005 10:43 AM TrackBack URL for this entry:

Is it really giving them a pass to expect them to do their jobs? Al Queda and militant Islam's job is to promote crazy submit or die Islam at every opportunity. They did their job well no matter how disgusting we find that job and we are fighting against them because we see they are dangerous. It is the job of Newsweek to provide non-biased news. They failed by a long shot and provided excuses for murder in the process. Posted by rjschwarz at May 17, 2005 12:16 PMLet's see now. Newsweek committed bad journalism. Islamic nut cases kill people in response. They don't even kill the Newsweek staff who committed bad journalism. And this is reasonable how? Newsflash: The United States is not a perfect society. It does, though, happen to be much, much better than any nation ruled by Muslims. Some Muslims are catching on. Let's hope lots more do. This is one of those times when I'm in complete agreement with a National Review writer. Posted by Chuck Divine at May 17, 2005 12:29 PMNobody said the Islamic nutjobs were reasonable. I'm saying it's a waste of time to complain that the Klan doesn't like black people, or that Islamic nutjobs are anti-semetic, or that tigers like to eat meat. These groups don't even try to hide what they are. Other things such as journalists pretend to be something they are not. In the process they pretend the Islamic nut-jobs are peaceful. They are being called on their bullshit. That is where the story is. If the Islamic nutjobs had a sit-in that would be the unexpected worthy of a story. As it is the nutjobs are a sick bit of proof to another story. Posted by rjschwarz at May 17, 2005 01:22 PMWhen I was a child we had a relative who was very unstable. You never knew what would set him off. As a result we all babied the relative and tried out best to humor him at all times just to keep him happy so as to minimize his vicious tantrums. That is islam today and how we are reacting to islam today. It is a sick relationship. The family should have hauled off and institutionalized the old gent so he could get the care he needed. And that is what we should to be doing with islam now rather than just whistling past the graveyard and spouting ROP and humoring the vicious monster. Posted by Michael at May 17, 2005 02:41 PMI'm told that if you try to get into Saudi Arabia with a Bible in your suitcase, when the customs officer sees it he will, as a matter of policy, immediately and violently destroy it. (Can anyone confirm that?) And that's not a matter of a rogue government employee acting out his own prejudices, it's a matter of a government employee following instructions of his government. But they have such bloody good oil. Posted by K at May 18, 2005 12:52 AMThat is islam today and how we are reacting to islam today, This is how Newsweek and many others are acting but there are many who are fighting the worst fanatics of Islam hoping that when defeated the less fanatical will retake control of their religion so we don't have to fight them next. These folks fighting against the worst fanatics are the same folks maligned by lies by Newsweek in the Koran-in-the-loo-gate. Posted by rjschwarz at May 18, 2005 07:00 AMrjschwarz: What makes you think the "less fanatical" ever had control of Islam in the first place? good point, okay rephrase to say Less fanatical take control of Islam for a change.
