Fox sux.

Forgive the cutesy-poo DU-style spelling, it's just that Fox had both "The Simpsons" and "Futurama" on their schedule once. The Simpsons started showing signs of creative stagnation a couple of years before Futurama came along, and it puzzles the hell out of me why Futurama had to be given the axe.

Ratings?

Posted by Rand Simberg at April 26, 2005 01:06 PM

The funny thing about ratings is that, by axing Futurama, it turned reruns into cult classics, much like Family Guy. Now the DVDs of those shows are selling like hotcakes, and the shows make good lead-ins for the original programming on Cartoon Network's Adult Swim at night.

I wonder how long Family Guy's ratings will stay up after they start new episodes this coming Sunday? I'm expecting initial ratings to be through the roof, but we'll see if Seth McFarlane can keep it fresh or not.

Fox didn't help Futurama ratings by moving it around and hiding it. Sure, I'm biased, but if I could pick between the more recent Simpsons episodes, and Futurama, I'd pick Futurama easily.

The other thing FOX does with the Simpsons is Let It Run. I do not ever remember hearing that FOX was giving the folks at the Simpsons a hard time over content or context.

Can you imagine the outcry on CBS if Homer took a trip on Mexican Insanity Peppers and talked to a coyote who sounded like Johnny Cash??

CBS PROMOTES DRUG USE!!!

What about Homer choking Bart? 350 episodes, at least 250 chokings!

CBS PROMOTES CHILD ABUSE!!

Fox is the mean little kid down the block that everyone EXPECTS to break windows in the abandoned house. So when we hear glass breaking, we are not surprised.
