Looks Like He's Going To Make It
Fossett is apparently over Kansas, and close enough to be able to glide in, even if he runs out of fuel, now.
[Update about 2:36 PM EST]
He's almost made it--just a few miles out. Another record, for him, and another feather in Burt's cap.
[Update at 2:48 PM EST]
He's on the ground. I'll bet he'll be happy to find some indoor plumbing. And a bed.

One thing that annoyed me about the Fox coverage--they mentioned Burt Rutan a couple of times, but never seemed to quite realize who he was or what he's been building lately.
You'd think with Branson's name all over everything, they'd make the connection...

A few years ago I was partcipating in a multihull sailing e-mail group and producing data analizing
Steves chances of breaking the Jules Verne Record
(The time I was following he failed to set the record)
A little while later Steve succedded in doing
the around the world solo baloon record.
One of the members in the group commented that
Now that Steve had circled the world in a Ballon who would be the first to circle Steves Ego in any kind of aircraft.
At the time the comment struck me a ridiculously funny.
Steve keeps trying bigger and bigger things.
In some of the recent press Steve has been dropping hints about more record attempts in the works. It makes me wonder what is left for him to do that is not Space releated?
He has the well known publicly discussed glider
work, but in addition to that???

He's landed and the envious pissants of the MSM are already on the march.
All we need now to make the whinefest complete are a few letters to the editor bemoaning the cost and claiming the money could have been better spent resolving troubles "on Earth".
