No Moore Respect

Kathleen Antrim says that Michael Moore's former manager doesn't have kind words for him:

With characteristic zeal, Moore campaigned vigorously for a Best Picture nomination.

"He was at every Oscar party and screening," said Moore's former manager Douglas Urbanski, a critically acclaimed 25-year veteran of the entertainment industry most recently known for the movie "The Contender," starring Gary Oldman, Joan Allen and Jeff Bridges. "He took out full-page ads, cut his hair, bathed and even wore a suit. [Moore was] very present around town."

Emphasis mine. Apparently, Hollywood is blaming him for Kerry's defeat. And then there's this:

...he feels no compunction in talking about the only client he ever fired. And he fired Moore with a ten-page letter.

"A more dishonest and demented person I have never met," Urbanski wrote me in an e-mail, "and I have known a few! And he is more money obsessed than any I have known, and that's saying a lot."

Urbanski believes that Moore hates America, hates capitalism, and hates any normal concept of freedom and democracy. This seems odd considering that if it weren't for America, freedom and capitalism, Moore's brand of expression and capitalistic success would be impossible, if not illegal. "Michael Moore could not withstand ‘Michael Moore's' scrutiny for more than fifteen seconds," Urbanski said.

Yes, just ask this guy.

Rand,
Michael Moore would probably function quite well producing propaganda for any autocratic dictator, as did that woman who produced Hitler's films. Of course, he would want to be well paid!

I'm personally not at all sure how a left winger is supposed to get to produce propaganda for a dictator, since most dictators are rather right-wing. But if you're right, I'm sure Bush will be hiring him Real Soon Now.

Whether or not that happens, I'm sure the free speech thing won't be bothering America for much longer. It's about due another anti-american committee style witch hunt I reckon. How else are the neo-conservatives going to maintain their paranoid grip on the country now that the Islamists have been all but wiped out?

So Joe Stalin, the nutcase running North Korea, and Fidel Castro are right wingers?

Fascinating. What planet are you sending these dispatches from, Ian?

Fascinating. What planet are you sending these dispatches from, Ian?

It's called the Earth. I suggest you visit it sometime soon.

So that's why it is called "Transterrestial musings"!!!! *You're* on a different planet from everyone else :-)

Apparently you never took Latin, Ian.

Not surprising, given your ignorance on much else.

Posted by Rand Simberg at February 28, 2005 06:14 PM

By the way, Ian, I see you (not so cleverly) avoided my question. Stalin, Castro, Kim father and son, "right wingers"? Or not dictators?

Posted by Rand Simberg at February 28, 2005 08:16 PM

You can have a left-winged or right-winged totalitarian regime. This is what we are talking about here.

For left-winged you got Stalin, Castro, Kim, Pol Pot, Mao, Saddam, etc.
For right-winged you got Hitler, Mussolini, Suharto, Franco, Pinochet, Pétain, etc.

Some might consider Castro, Saddam, Franco, Pinochet and Pétain as "merely" authoritarian rather than totalitarian.

I suppose the difference is you are "mercifully" shot or sent to prison and tortured rather than sent to reeducation (read brainwashing) camps with forced labour.

Me? Latin? Studied? Check.

But this is English anyway. So:

trans-
pref.

1. Across; on the other side; beyond: transpolar.
2. Through: transcontinental.
3. Change; transfer: transliterate.
4. Having a pair of identical atoms on opposite sides of two atoms linked by a double bond. Used of a geometric isomer: trans-butene.

Terrestial = earth

Hence transterrestial must be beyond the earth or transfer to/from the earth. Otherwise you could have used a term like intercontinental; you wouldn't need to try to invent one.

So, as I said, given your earlier comment, you are obviously a space alien. QED. :-)
