Election Violence

Already.

In my new home town.

...on Sunday night, a student leading a Republican protest at Florida Atlantic University saw her Ford Explorer vandalized by Democrats attending a John Kerry rally. University police responded to the incident and eventually broke it up.

“Some people surrounded us and started yelling obscenities and racist comments at me,” said Dana Roberts, FAU College Republican chairwoman. “I’m African-American and they were yelling that I’ve sided with the Ku Klux Klan. There were people telling them to stop, but they poured beer on the car and vandalized it with Kerry bumper stickers.”

Between 5 and 7 p.m. Friday, an unknown Kerry supporter drove by a GOP rally near a K-Mart on Palmetto Park Road and threw rocks and sand at rally-goers. Several car windows were broken.

“I was singled out as the leader and had rocks thrown in my face,” said Jack Furnari, president of the Boca Raton Republicans.

I'm sure it must all be Bushitler's fault, though. Has to be.

An adversarial press is necessary for free speech to flourish and to keep everyone honest, however, the press is only being adversarial to the right.

The jackboot better fits the liberal left under those circumstances & this is a scary thing.

What else are the Kerry people in Florida going to do? The latest polls show that Bush is pulling ahead in Florida. So, obviously that means Bush has already got a head start on machinating the votes like he did last election. So, they have to mobilize and take back their election at any cost. Bush people are all religious zealots that believe in an eye for an eye and stone the infidels to death. So, the Kerry supporters are acting out in the only manner which the evangelical Bushites understand. By throwing the Kerry campaign rock of justice at their heads.

Well, in Sacramento last night, a Demo office and local stores were shot up with BB guns and spray painted with "F* Kerry" and "Bush 2004" comments. Not as bad, but let's be clear that there are nutcases of every stripe around. I just hope it isn't a trend towards more election violence.

Posted by VR at October 27, 2004 01:36 PM

I'm sure a little paint and a BB or two rank right up there with racism, rocks, and now cars (see http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/1027042harris1.html ).

Rand, I don't think you moved up, leaving Californication for Floriduh. Just be careful you don't catch whatever it is they're carrying.

Posted by Dave G at October 27, 2004 02:18 PM

Humm, maybe that's why I said "not as bad"?

Though it does show the same kind of attitude, and it did happen at about the same time. Let's point out ALL hateful incidents, eh?

Posted by VR at October 27, 2004 04:33 PM

Let's not mistake either that while there *are* ISOLATED instances of Bush supporters committing vandalism, the Dems have orchestrated a NATIONWIDE campaign of mob violence. I don't use the word 'orchestrated' lightly. After attacks in six or so states all on the same night at about the same time, by the same group of thugs, it is time for DHS to put at least the AFL-CIO on the terrorist watch list.

I looked up this articel on line and found several versions, NONE of them mention the attackers being, charged or arrested. There is no mention of any possible fines or any punishment at all in the articles.

"University police responded to the incident and eventually broke it up."

I would hate to see and hear the outrage if Kerry supporters were attacked.

I take it Florida is not a 'shall issue' state?

"I take it Florida is not a 'shall issue' state?"

It is a "shall issue" state.

Posted by Mike Puckett at October 28, 2004 04:25 PM

In fact, Florida set off the recent trend of states going to "shall-issue" carry.

Posted by McGehee at October 29, 2004 06:28 AM

Well, Florida being 'shall issue' makes me wonder about the intelligence of the assailants (and, frankly, their victims). Attacking people who may be, and *should* be, packing heat is remarkably stupid. Pity it turned out to be a safe gamble in this case.
