John Glenn, Statesman

Here is his comment on the Republican convention:

Former senator John Glenn (D-Ohio) took the defense a step further by comparing the Republicans' misleading statements to those of Nazi Germany. "You've just got to separate out fact from fiction. . . . Too often, too often, in this country, if you hear something repeated, it's the old Hitler business -- if you hear something repeated, repeated, repeated, repeated, you start to believe it," he said.

Is any other commentary necessary?

Kerry and the Dems are really getting hysterical. The problem is their attacks sound shrill and defensive not to mention, at times, ludicrous as is Glenn's Hitler comparison. For all the whining about "vicious" SWBVT ads, this is the 3rd or 4th time a Dem Hitler quote has made into the media.

Shame on him!

John Glenn sold his sould to the devil years ago when he gave Clinton a pass in the hearings he co-chaired so he could get another ride.

Posted by Mike Puckett at September 4, 2004 07:16 PM

Why is it, that the Dems wanted to squelch ANY demonstrations at their convention, and the Republicans are Hitlerian?
These guys are grasping at straws, hopefully the straw will catch fire and they will have nothing to grasp when election day comes around.

Another nugget of wisdom from Senator Glenn. Pretty pathetic.

His second ride should have went to an honest Democrat. Zell Miler deserved it more.

Both the (D) and (R) conventions featured (D)emocrats burning flags outside...

And to quote Mark Steyn:

So we have one candidate running on a platform of ambitious reforms for an ''ownership society'' at home and a pledge to hunt down America's enemies abroad. And we have another candidate running on the platform that no one has the right to say anything mean about him.

JFKerry(D) is a "girlieman"

DANEgerus: Hey, don't insult girls like that! ;-p

Profoundly disappointing.

Reading the quote, you can tell his heart's not in it. Clearly, someone in the DNC & Dem establishment is encouraging this type of talk. I doubt Glenn would make such a comment unprompted.

Still, no excuse. This is just sad.

It would serve Glenn right if Ohio's electoral votes go to Bush this November.

Posted by Alan K. Henderson at September 6, 2004 01:49 AM

John Glenn served his country bravely and well. It's too bad he gave up public service to enter politics.

Posted by Ken Hahn at September 6, 2004 05:24 AM

It takes some huuge cahones for Keating 5 Senator to accuse Bush and the Republicans of lying and deception. If it weren't harming the war effort. It'd almost be amusing.
