She Doesn't Like Singing For Muslims That's what Linda Ronstadt said. Oh, what's that? She said it about Christians? My mistake. No wonder the politically correct harpies aren't trumpeting it from the front pages. You know, it's really sad that so many artists that I enjoy have to indulge themselves in this mindless politics. I used to love her stuff, particularly the torch songs with Nelson Riddle, but she'll never sound the same again. Posted by Rand Simberg at July 20, 2004 05:20 PMTrackBack URL for this entry:

Not just Christians - Republicans too. Can you imagine if a singer said they didn't want to perform in front of Democrats? Can't you just see the headlines? I was glad to see she was thrown out of the Alladin. It was good for her to learn her audience also believed in "Don't Ask, Don't Tell." Posted by VR at July 21, 2004 01:05 AMIf Michael Moore is 'Desperado' in her tribute, he should heed the lyrical advice and 'come to his senses'. I refer to her as "Linda Roundsnout". Another piggy for "Napoleon" Moore. "Two legs bad, four legs good!" Posted by Mike Puckett at July 21, 2004 09:33 AM"Children, this is your mind on cocaine..." Well, its not like this is the new Linda Ronstadt. She has trouble with religion, as she said to Creem magazine back in '76: "...Went to parochial schools and had religion rammed down my throat. I finally left at 17 when I was hot and bored and realized that there wasn't any music around." and, "One of her demons is religion. "Even though I think religion is like the root of all evil, I still have a lingering fetish for religious objects like rosaries..."" Posted by ransom at July 21, 2004 09:03 PMRansom, you're right. But she was hot back then. The story headline is different from what Ronstadt actually said. Headline: "Linda Ronstadt: I don't like singing for Christians" Actual quote (emphasis mine): "This is an election year, and I think we're in desperate trouble and it's time for people to speak up and not pipe down. It's a real conflict for me when I go to a concert and find out somebody in the audience is a Republican or fundamental Christian. It can cloud my enjoyment. I'd rather not know." This was a truly dumb thing to say, but she doesn't say "I don't like singing for Christians." Check quotes. And, as I hinted to you earlier, Rand - before you comment on what you think someone said, whether it's my essay on whether there's a Moore's Law for space or an article with a headline that obviously oversimplifies, consider reading the whole thing first. By the way, Rand, I want to tell you, in response to some of your recent blog entries: I agree with your expressed admiration of the Kerry campaign for using a Rolls Royce logo. I agree with you that Poles are unrepentant former Nazis like Leni Riefenstal. I agree with you that Derek Lyons is a brain-damaged space nut. I'd find more things to agree with you about, but ihavetogettomyspeedreadingclass. Posted by Michael Turner at July 24, 2004 10:04 PMPost a comment |
