Consensus

If this on-line poll is to be believed, Arnold is right--California legislators really are girlie men. So far, the polling is running a hundred percent in favor of the proposition.

I think that the reaction of the Dems to this is hysterical, in both senses of the word.

[Update at 5:30 PM]

The legislators have gained some support. Now over one percent of the respondents don't think they're girlie men.

By default I'm the person at work who ensures that our compliance with all of the California labor laws is up to date. Arnold was being gentle to the girlie-men: the stupid, blind, dumb, ignorant, hostile, arrogant, hate-filled, racist, innumerate and uneducated majority that squat in the California legislature killing jobs and driving away both new and old businesses. But don't take my word for it. Go check out SB 976 for a start.

It's funny: The term was a Saturday Night Live joke on him. But now HE uses it and gets this reaction. Silly - but on the other hand I do think he was a bit naive if he thought the political inertia could be overcome so easily.

We have a budget fight every year. Last year there was a proposition with a "hidden" (well, the sponsors didn't talk about it) provision that would reduce the majority requirement for increasing taxes from 2/3 to 55%. Luckily, it finally became general knowledge and the thing failed. It is HARD to pass a budget in California, so it isn't surprising there would be a lot of fighting over it. If the requirement had dropped to 55%, I have little doubt we would have a budget - and higher state taxes.
