Y'all aren't going back far enough. If Bush I hadn't been elected to office, Bush II wouldn't be in the position he was in vis-a-vis the 2000 election (let alone the Texas gubanatorial race earlier) and we might have been able to vote (gad) Ann Richards into office as our first female President. Oh, Molly Ivins could only wish.
So it's Reagan's fault, really, for choosing Bush as his Vice President.
