Wacky Politics

I'm hearing that John Effing Kerry is going to accept the nomination at, of all strange places and times, the convention. What a weird world we live in, that this is big news.

Actually, I think that he declined to accept it there before he decided to accept it there. We'll see how many times he changes his mind again between now and July.

And for those who didn't see it via Glenn or other places, Mickey has a pretty funny (and vicious) take on this (no obvious permalink--look for the May 26th, 2004 posting if you're reading this from the future).

I detect a trial balloon. It's been pretty obvious to anyone with any degree of political shrewdness that Kerry is poised to stink up the campaign when it really gets underway. He's not that strong a candidate. He probably would have been a fair match against Bush in 2000, but Bush has a lot of Presidenting behind him now and Kerry has nothing to match except for an ability to out "Bushism" Bush on a regular basis. I think the DNC was trying to see if it would be at all possible for Kerry to step aside and allow someone with a better chance to run against Bush.

I made the mistake of working for the elitist on his 1st congressional campaign. As a MA voter I can attest that the man flip-flops faster than the fastest digital circuits. The term for his behaviour is "metastability".

Even staunch Dems (anything else in Boston?) were ready to riot over the city closing down just for a DNC block party with NO nominee resulting.

"Bush has a lot of Presidenting behind him now"

Gosh, I was thinking that was the main advantage that Kerry has going for him, so far.

No, the main advantage that Kerry has going for him is the rabid Bush hatred on the part of much of the Democrat Party. Absent that, he wouldn't have a chance (and I still think that his chances are slim).

I'd say the rabid Bush hatred is Bush's biggest advantage.

And Robin, Terry McAwful and the DNC were fit to be tied over this idea. Which tells me it wasn't theirs -- it was Kerry's and Kerry's alone.
