Space Wing

I'm not a regular West Wing watcher. In fact, I think I've only seen the show once. But Andrew Millard says that they had a subplot on space policy last night.

Yeah, I saw it. I've been a fan of Zubrin's "Mars Direct" approach since I read his book "The Case for Mars". So it was exciting to see it get its moment in the sun on a popular TV show, no matter how brief. It's nice to see that disenchantment with NASA's approach to space has penetrated the public consciousness enough to make it onto a show like this one. Yeah, as Andrew Millard notes, it would have been nice if they had thrown a bone to the private-development advocates, but that probably really WAS too much to ask. Seems like every plot carries with it the implicit message that government is the solution to all problems. I would accuse the show of "leftist" leanings, but the President IS a Democrat so I guess you can't fault them there. But if this show runs a few years more, it's going to get into trouble since President Bartlett will be ending his second term. Is the entire cast going to have to quit, or will the show's writers rescind the two-term limit?
