Feel The Love So I was listening to the radio in the car a few minutes ago, and I heard Governor Gray "Gumby" Davis say that "Republicans would rather shoot their mothers than raise taxes." Posted by Rand Simberg at September 03, 2003 04:26 PMTrackBack URL for this entry:

And the Dems would rather shoot their mothers than cut a single mohair subsidy. Posted by Toren at September 3, 2003 04:48 PMI rather shoot the Dim-O-Rats' mothers than raise taxes! Posted by Barbara Skolaut at September 3, 2003 06:15 PMSo0 he's saying we can trust the Republicans on taxes? In "Parlaiment of Whores" P.J. O'Rourke made a point that taxes shouldn't be imposed for anything that wasn't important enough to have the cops threaten your mother if she refused to contribute her share. This still strikes me as pretty sensible. Posted by Eric Pobirs at September 3, 2003 07:06 PM
Joe Davis makes me sick. I'm tired of being called a murderer because I vote and advocate against his over collection and spending of my money. Thank god we have Fox News/Rush/KFI to expose these kinds of statements in a way that is analogous to how CNN handled the comments of Trent Lott. Posted by Fred K at September 4, 2003 11:31 AMKeep in mind that this is from a guy that raises taxes at the drop of a hat, knows he has completely lost conservative voters, so is blaming 'pubs for his mistakes. No, it isn't that the 'demo led State government increased spending 40% over the last few years, causing the inevitable deficit when the economic boom faded. It is because 'pubs managed to keep them from even more - huge - tax increases when the economy was slow. Davis has repeatedly shown he doesn't undertand basic economics, or doesn't care. In California's so-called "deregulated" electricity market, it was virtually impossible to build a power plant. It takes YEARS to get the permits, if you are very, very lucky. And then you get tied up with lawsuits. And yet, whenit became painfully clear there wasn't enough electricity generation he ... didn't do a thing. SOME governers might have tried to cut back on the massive regulatory mess so power plants could be built. Not him. Much later, when it was obvious that PG&E and So. Cal Edison would soon have to declare bankruptcy unless they were allowed to charge at least as much for electricity as the paid for it - he sat on his rear. When PG&E did declare bankruptcy he (and the demo led legislature) finally do something. While begging people not to use more electricity (largely ignored) he hatched a plan where THE STATE purchased the electricity, no matter the price, and sold it at a lower price - with predictable results. After a few weeks, it became obvious, even to him, that the state couldn't subsidize electricity THEN he screamed high and low that those evil electric companies had TAKEN the money thrown at them, and should give that money back! Why . . . maybe they TOOK ADVANTAGE when the state acted like a junkie needing a fix! How could they?? Davis. What an idiot. Posted by VR at September 4, 2003 04:12 PMOuch, several editing errors in my note. In defense, this entry system isn't the best for reading and editing. Posted by VR at September 4, 2003 04:21 PMYes, sorry about that, VR. I noticed myself yesterday that there's no way to fix something after previewing it, at least in Mozilla. Hopefully something that the Mobeable Type folks are working on. Posted by Rand Simberg at September 4, 2003 04:56 PMYou can edit in Mozilla by right-clicking the preview screen and selecting "Back" from the context menu. I do this regularly... Posted by Troy at September 4, 2003 05:16 PMI think he means "Republicans would rather shoot their own mothers than raise tax rates". Seems Gray doesn't have much interest in the details, though. Posted by David Perron at September 5, 2003 01:12 PMFor not being able to edit comments, I can't edit them after preview even in IE 6.1. I think that you just have an old version of Movable Type. It's currently up to 2.64. Posted by Annoying Old Guy at September 6, 2003 10:24 AMPost a comment |
