I'm curious, what is your opinion of the Space Elevator concept. I signed up for the Highlift Systems newsletter, one of the companies supposedly researching the concept, but I haven't heard anything. Is a nanotube ribbon to space really an option?

Perhaps someday, but there are a lot of technical and political issues to overcome (for one thing, you have to remove all the satellites from earth orbit so they don't collide with it...) I certainly wouldn't put all my eggs in that basket.
