What's The Point?
Richard Cohen can't figure out why we launch Space Shuttles. Frankly, neither can I, at least if it's supposed to be about accomplishing things in space.

One generally owns wrenches to turn bolts.
Having the shuttle, in it's current form, is like having a fancy wrench for the sake of bragging to your neighbors that you have a fancy wrench even when you have no bolts to turn.

The difference between you and Mr. Cohhen Rand is that you wish the money Nasa squanders be made available to the prvate sector for a real sustainable space effort and Mr. Cohen sees NASA's budget as money that should be spent on social programs.
I think liberal opposition to the space program stems from a long held LBJ 'War on Poverty' era resentment that the money is not going for their feel good social handout agenda.

Please forgive previous spelling and puncuation errors. One 'h' in Cohen and commas seperatin your name from his. To quote Ralph Wiggum: "Me fail English? That's umpossible!"
