They Still Don't Get The Story Straight

It's been twenty five years now, and the AP has a story of the anniversary of the Love Canal debacle. It was the event that created the insane Superfund for environmental cleanup, most of the money for which is siphoned off into lawyer's wallets.

And of course, what the AP doesn't mention is that it wasn't Hooker Chemical's fault--they just ended up being the fall guy for stupid bureaucrats.

Reason Magazine did a long article in early 1980s that described such things as-- exactly how Hooker used every known method to make sure what it was burying didn't get out. How they told the school board to never, ever build on certain parts of the land the board was stealing from Hooker through the use of eminent domain. How they sold the land for one dollar because when land is stolen by eminent domain, you lose some rights, like being able to tell future buyers what you did with the land they are buying.

A classic example of how lies become accepted wisdom, and really big lies can become impossible to refute.

Yeah, I noticed there was an article about this, which I sighed at seeing and didn't even read. The truth is all well and good, but if people don't hear it or believe it, fat lot of good it does.
