OK, everyone who thinks that Bill Lockyer is positioning himself to attempt to become governor of California in a couple months, by announcing in less than a couple weeks, raise your hands...

Announcing what? the filing deadline for the election to replace Davis is next Saturday. That'd take awfully fast footwork. And Davis can wait till he sees who's running before he starts trashing them specifically.

Next Saturday is less than a couple weeks...

I'm not saying that Lockyer has to wait until Davis actually starts trashing people--just that when he does, he'll look prescient, and have taken the high road. I expect several of Dems to jump in this week, out of a combination of panic and power hunger, and I won't be at all surprised if Lockyer is one of them, having just risen his voter profile as an anti-Gray.
