Dribble

I'm going to say this once, and once only.

I'm getting very tired of you droolers out there who, having apparently never seen the word in print, and being unable to aurally distinguish between the bilabial fricative "b" and the labiodental fricative "v," write "dribble" when they mean "drivel."

That is all.

"Bilabial fricative".

Hmmm...I think the only other time I've heard that phrase is from the legendary George Carlin. It's either on his "Occupation: Foole" album, or "Class Clown". Ah, the days of childhood. If nothing else, these two LP's definitely expanded my vocabulary.

Everybody together now, a big Bronx cheer....PPPFFFFFTTTT!!

There can be only one response to this:

Brabbo!

Those must be the same people who say that something "doesn't jive."

That was funny. Brilliantly funny.

Rand supposively fancies himself a linguist.

I consider myself a cunning linguist...

I believe you will find that most people who are drivelers also dribblers, metaphorically if not literally, so you can understand how the slow learners out there could confuse the two.

Those must be the same people who say that something "doesn't jive."

Actually, I believe they say that something "doesn't jibbe."

I consider myself a cunning linguist...

...if I had a dollar for every time I've heard someone say that of themselves...

Posted by gojou at July 22, 2003 03:22 AM

...of themself, actually. :-/
