Cue Wagner

The anti-globo morons have come up with some brilliant and practical ideas to deal with the G8's choice of Sea Island for the next summit.

A posting by the group Food Not Bombs in Berkeley, Calif., said it may build a "a floating food warehouse and communal kitchen to serve delicious vegan meals to participants arriving at the island by kayak."

Or perhaps protesters could take up a collection to buy one of Sea Island's 500 "cottages," which range in price from $1.3 million to $18 million.

"If ten-thousand people chipped in half a grand each, we could collectively own it, and then throw a REALLY BIG HOUSEWARMING PARTY," wrote a messager using the name "mj," who included a link to real estate listings on Sea Island's Web site. "It'd have to be illegal to keep us off the island."

But here's my favorite:

One messager using the name "wispy" suggested trying to breach the island with flotilla of boats flying pirate flags and blaring composer Richard Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries."

I love the smell of salt-sprayed vegans in the morning.

I paid a visit to the area over the weekend. Here's the rub - Sea Island is not as isolated as descriptions make it sound. The obvious meeting place on Sea Island, an old hotel, is being torn down for a new structure. There's a golf course on the northern end of the island that may be the location of the meeting. But it could also be held on Sea Island owned land on St. Simons Island - a much more public and accessable spot.

Residents of the area are very concerned - to reach Sea Island from land one crosses a causeway to St. Simons, then another causeway to Sea Island. Folks are concerned that only the Sea Island causeway will be blocked off, and that the pillagers will loot and burn St. Simons, a more middle class island. Homeowners there are talking about buying shotguns.

Some of the folks in the mainland town of Brunswick, where the causeways begin, are also getting ready. I talked to a couple who have already bought ammunition, ready to shoot a few communists. They say they are ready to teach them that South Georgia is not Europe.

I predict big trouble unless there is plenty of law enforcement.

"I love the smell of salt-sprayed vegans in the morning."

I suppose that means they got over their allergy to water...

Isn't this term the epitome of oxymorons, "...delicious vegan meals"!

I vote we help the G8 attendees by hiring our own boats and barges, by creating a smoke screen around the island. A smoke screen of steaks, burgers, hot dogs, chicken, pork, fried turkeys, you get the idea. The protesters will be sickened by the smell and rendered helpless to protests or violence by their own tears as they cry over the poor little animals we slaughtered.

JACKASSES!!

I have to go now, I'm suddenly hungry, "calling Doctor Pavlov, calling Doctor Pavlov...."

I wonder if piracy (the old-fashioned sea-borne raider kind) is still on the books as a 'hangin' offense in GA?

Posted by Mike Sargent at July 21, 2003 11:40 AM

Piracy is sadly only punishable by life imprisonment anymore, in the US. (USC 18.i.1651).

The old tradition of summary execution seems more fitting for piracy. Though in this case, of course, it would only be trespass, unless the anti-globo-mofos actually interfere with shipping.

Can trespassers still be shot in Georgia?

You have to actually break into a residence and refuse to leave to get shot justifiably here in Arizona, if the trespasser isn't threatening someone with a weapon themselves. In the case that they are brandishing a weapon, you can get away with shooting the idiots to prevent 'imminent grevious bodily harm' just about anywhere, not just on your own property.

Maybe Georgia can declare a special season, but then, who would want to gut and clean them and then have them haul them to the check-in station? Maybe "catch-and-release" would work, though...

"Delicious vegan meals"-- gotta add it to my list of oxymorons. It's in the same league as perhaps the shortest possible one-- "fun run".

I would tend to agree with Juan's comment about the security picture for this summit. My wife and I favor Jekyll Island for our beach trips so far, but last time we also took a look at St. Simon's.

An anarcho rampage there would be truly gruesome, and I'm not at all surprised that residents there and in Brunswick are concerned.

Here is a great website to get information on the 2004 G8 Summit.

Protesters won't have a way onto St. Simons Island. It's already been discussed and now the logistics are being worked on.

If you're not a resident, journalist in the group of 100 allowed on the Island or not on the LIST: they will be turned away from St. Simons Island.

Bottom line is, residents, including myself will be leaving the Island to avoid the widespread security checks on and off of St. Simons.
