A Barsoomian Fisking
Some pathetic (probably, based on his commentary) liberal arts major at the Guardian doesn't know what he's gotten himself into when he disses terraforming Mars. He's apparently one of those misanthropic "mankind is a cancer on the face of the universe" types.
But Thomas James righteously invests the time and trouble required to set him straight. It's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it.

Great title -- wish I'd thought of that!

Interestingly a year or so ago they had a similar opinion piece putting across the exact opposite position.
That's the nice thing about The Guardian - over a period of time it really does a good job of covering a wide variety of belief systems.

I would be happy to buy this jerk a one-way ticket on the next Mars Express. He could experience Mars' pristine beauty up close and personally.
P.S.: I've been to Illinois and England, Illinois kicks ass!

Why should he get to go?

I think I rather like the idea of giving this chap a one way ride on an unpressurized vehicle, personally...

I nominate him to be the first solar astronaut.

The good news is, he gets to go. The bad news is, it's Elbonian Airlines.

Watch out for the Mars First! protesters.
