A Better Job For Baghdad Bob You know, rather than being a shill for Apple, I think that Baghdad Bob should replace Terry McAuliffe. Just imagine: Impotent imperialist criminal Republicans cannot just take over the Congress and the White House! Bush the retarded monkey did not win the 2000 election--it is all lies! I'm not sure he could be quite as vitriolic as Terry, but he could come close. Posted by Rand Simberg at April 10, 2003 02:33 PMTrackBack URL for this entry:

Could somebody please explain how the nickname "Baghdad Bob" came about? And who conceived it? And why "Bob"? Is there some pop-culture reference I'm missing? I honestly thought for a while there that "Baghdad Bob" was a reference to Robert Fisk. Posted by Tomas at April 10, 2003 08:01 PMI've seen Fisk referred to in that way, too. My initial reaction was the similarity to Hanoi Jane, though the implied analogy really doesn't work that well. It does sound good, though, which is important for a meme. Posted by Matthew Picioccio at April 11, 2003 07:03 AMOver at SgtStryker.com, the name "Skippy" seems to have stuck. I like Baghdad Bob for Fisk. Posted by Andy Freeman at April 11, 2003 08:51 AMThat was a classic McAuliffe speech; way to dig up the resources. I thought you were going to do a parody of him, though, using Skippy's quirks of spin. Posted by Jeff Medcalf at April 11, 2003 09:56 AMYou've certainly got the words...and the music.
