Talk About Bad Timing

This deserves an instant Von Hoffman Award from Andrew Sullivan. That's the one that he gives out for being egregiously wrong in a prognostication.

That's my town! Columbia is a big College town, housing my school (University of Missouri) among others, so it's not surprising this kind of muddled thinking makes it into the paper. I've been dealing with it for weeks...

Have we forgotten why we went in there. It was to remove the threat of weapons of mass destruction. We would have been quite happy to let these people continue to suffer if we weren't scared that Saddam Hussien had these weapons. The Iraqi's can thank their lucky stars that our self interest worked in their favour this time.

That's not the only reason we went in there. Liberating Iraq is also part of the strategy because, since September 11, we've come to recognize that Middle East dictatorships are breeding grounds for terrorism. By making an example of Saddam, it will make it much easier to bring other tyrants to heel, particularly with the example of a democratic Arab regime to hold out as an incentive to their benighted people.

Another brave dissident, willing to commit his/her life, fortune, and sacred honor by...writing an *anonymous* letter to the editor.

Apparently they don't have enough faith in their convictions to articulate them in public and welcome the consequences as part of the free-speech package deal.

Posted by T.L. James at April 9, 2003 07:25 PM

Had to write the editor on that one...GOD I'm getting fed up with these people.

And the answer?

Hell, yeah.

Posted by Eric the .5b at April 9, 2003 11:04 PM

Let's see...we elect a President...he stays in power for 30 years...he kills about 5% of the U.S. population and drives another 20% into exile...invades Canada or Mexico...he raises and trains sons to foster even a more cruel regime after he finally dies...cuts sweetheart deals with the French...

Nope, wouldn't want anyone coming here and telling us *our* business!
