Sweet Justice

A lot of Republicans are planning to cross over in the primary to defeat Cynthia McKinney. They have little to lose. Whoever wins the primary is almost certain to win the election, so heavily is the district weighted in Democrats.

I know what I'd like to see at a Cynthia McKinney function: Sarah Lawrence in full regalia (see http://www.freedom.orlingrabbe.com/lfetimes/4July_burqa.htm) holding up a placard with the word "THANKS" written in huge block letters, reminding attendees that McKinney's greatest support (measured in cash donations) comes from misogynists.

Have burqa, will travel.

(Pictures of the (in)famous burqa are available at http://www.sarahlawrence.org/0207USLPNationalConvention.html)

I could be wrong, but I think there's only one Republican candidate for the seat anyway.

However, Republicans in that district voting in the Dem primary thus give up any chance of participating in the nomination process for other Republican candidates, such as for Governor or the U.S. Senate.

Personally, I'd consider it a worthwhile tradeoff.

It would be a fine statement of American democratic principles if an odious political hack such as McKinney could be unseated by bipartisan grassroots action. The Republicans in her district have just as much at stake as do the Democrats.
