Market Research How many people would buy a book on space technology and policy? (By yours truly, that is...) Posted by Rand Simberg at June 21, 2002 10:59 AMTrackBack URL for this entry:

Sure. Of course, it is a particular interest of mine and I've been reading your thoughts on the subject for years. Posted by Mark R. Whittington at June 21, 2002 11:23 AMGo for it. Now. The time is right; the gospel of St Werner is beginning to be questioned. Put your work-in-progress on the web for suggestions and comments, and to generate buzz. Good luck. Posted by John Weidner at June 21, 2002 11:58 AMWhat do you think I've been doing with my Fox columns? ;-) Posted by Rand Simberg at June 21, 2002 12:02 PMDepends on the price, and how broke I am at the time! ;) I'd buy one. I could probably badger others into buying some, too. I can be very irritating that way. Posted by Mike at June 21, 2002 01:12 PMI don't read anything printed on paper anymore, it hurts my eyes. Posted by Hefty at June 21, 2002 01:35 PMI would buy a copy. Posted by Andrew Olmsted at June 21, 2002 01:39 PMOkay, Hefty, you can save a tree and buy a PDF version. Posted by Rand Simberg at June 21, 2002 01:41 PMAbsolutely. Count me in. Posted by Toren at June 21, 2002 01:46 PMSounds like a great idea. Posted by Cal Ulmann at June 21, 2002 02:00 PMI would---and charge it to my office if it included stuff on the Chinese space program! Posted by Dean at June 21, 2002 02:42 PMWill it be a page turner??? ;-) I would certainly buy a book about space policy from such an excellent writer... Do I still get to root for Mars??? Posted by ken anthony at June 21, 2002 05:09 PMYou can root for Mars all you want. Just don't look for support from me. At least, any more than you've seen from the blog or Fox columns to date. :-) Posted by Rand Simberg at June 21, 2002 06:07 PMDidn't really expect it. ;-) One of your links lead me to this article... http://worldnetdaily.com/news/article.asp?ARTICLE_ID=28036 Would like to know your thoughts? Posted by ken anthony at June 21, 2002 06:14 PMColor me curious - particularly for the explanations of what the current tech options actually are, since there's a serious lack of good info about anything NASA's chosen not to do. And it's hard to come up with good policy in ignorance of what is being done and could be done soon. Yeah go for it. The more advocacy of space exploration and colonization, the better. Posted by Raymond at June 21, 2002 07:37 PMSounds good to me. Your blog is a bookmark for me and I read your sci.space.policy postings too, and I generally agree with you ;) Posted by Tone at June 22, 2002 07:02 AMSounds like a good idea... Posted by James at June 22, 2002 10:23 AMSo, when's it being published? Shortly after I write it. :-) As I said, I'm just in the market research stage... Posted by Rand Simberg at June 23, 2002 09:48 PMI'd love to see such a book. I'd also be interested to see what your opinion is of some of the space advocacy groups, such as the Artemis Society, Planetary Society, etc. I'll pen a fantastically enthusiastic Amazon review of it (or three) if you give me a discount. I'll even let you edit the review, a bit. Depending on the discount. Posted by David Perron at June 25, 2002 09:23 AMPost a comment |
