Are They Reading The Same Piece As Me?

Several people, including Instantman and the Vodka guy, have linked to this TechCentral piece by Pejman, saying that it shows that we're gearing up for war with Iraq.

I don't see anywhere that it makes such a case. There is some evidence presented that we are not, and some (perhaps) wishful thinking expressed that there's more going on than we see, but he provides no actual evidence of it, and that only in the second graf.

Mostly, it's a description (with which I mostly agree) of why we should be doing so, but I see little here to persuade me that we actually are.

I dunno, did the article you read not have this?:

"There are some who doubt that the President will move against Iraq anytime soon. These doubts stem from the President's declaration that 'there are no war plans' on his desk. These fears are likely unfounded." (emphasis added)

Yes, it had that.

The quote you provide is simply a statement (by Pejman) that the fears are unfounded. It doesn't constitute evidence of that, nor does he provide any, other than to make the case that it would be a good thing if it were true (with which I agree).

My thoughts exactly. BTW, I love Reynolds, but this half-assed "readers can comment when I say so" is a little exasperating and belittling to the reader. I mentioned because I was itching to tell him the same thing without having to email. Email is great for "private" correspondence, not public discussion. Kudos to you, Vodka and others who engage their readership.

No war plans are on his desk only because the pentagon hasn't finished them. You will know they are on his desk when forces start shifting towards Iraq. The question is what form it will take will it be Afghanistan part 2 or Desert Storm part 2. Or something in between.

Whatever and whenever Bush is up to something with Iraq, what do you think the chances are that he'll try to spring it on everyone by surprise, just as he did with the Homeland defense reorganization.

Yeah, It's harder to hide troop movements than flow charts, but still...

I'm not saying that such plans aren't ongoing--I think (and even more strongly hope) that they are. I'm just disputing the notion that Pejman's article makes a case for it.
