War Of Words?

The Mirror says that there's a grafitti war going on between US and British troops in Afghanistan.

I hope it's not as bad as the article makes it sound.

I found one sample a little odd, though.

"We don't have a fake monarchy, we don't have an empire, we don't obsess over stupid Royals. PS, Prince Charles is a f****** w*****, and all his sons are drug-addicted t**ts."

My best guess is that the first word is the "f" word with an "ing" at the end. I can't think of a word for the second one, except "wanker," which isn't an insult that a Yank would normally use (but a Brit would). Nor, if my guess is right for the third word, and the missing letters are "w" and "a," is that one. I wonder if someone is framing us? Or if they're using Britishisms to be more insulting?

Either way, it's dismaying and disappointing.

What dismays and disappoints me the most is that the Mirror reporter thinks the Brits burned the White House during the Revolution.. Honestly, they can't even get their anti-American facts right...

Good catch--I didn't notice that. I wasn't reading that carefully.

No it was the Civil War wasn't it? LOL!!!!!!!!!!

As for the grafitti I would say its harmless and only offensive to some left wing reporter with little in the way of a brain. That kind of badgering among military forces is quite common.

And don't ever try to take Canada again! Britain might not defend us nowadays, but our military still has their muskets and grapeshot!

The missing letters in the third word are more likely to be "w" and "i".

I agree that the wording is not likely to have come from a U.S. trooper unless they have had a lot of exposure to Brit informal insults.

Doesn't worry me a bit. I personally saw the rivalry between servicemen (American & German). I saw branch vs. branch, division vs division, cavalryman vs infantry scum, etc.... But, they also seem to work together when needed.

I guess I should review before I post. I meant always work together not also work together.

I agree, thus is the frustration of troops over there that are hungry to engage the enemy.

Same thing happens over here between the different branches.

I really doubt that the Royal Marines were all that offended. As some of your readers have pointed out, rivalry between combat units has existed forever. I've seen similar reports from world war two. US and British forces have always done this. Serving in the USAF I recall we always made fun of the other branchs. Consider it more like brothers teasing each other. Probably the only people offended by this have never served, or played sports.
P.S. The US Army spokesman was right, soldiers always complain. You should be really worried when they don't.
