More Foolishness From "Mr. Orwell"

Over at warbloggerwatchers, our new pet cowardly anonymous idiotarian comments:

Something is goin' on. I feel the winds of change blowing through the warblogs. First it was Shakespeare Sullivan's realization that the continuation of the Israeli offensive might lead to some kind of insane world conflict that would disasterous for us all and lead to unbelieveable amounts of human misery and suffering (see below) and now I find that Daddy Warblogs faith in the sanity of the Israeli military operation in Palestine is being shaken by the fact that mass graves filled with Palestinians civilians are being found...

Can someone get the poor creature a dictionary, and lend him some commas? It's probably hard to afford things like that when you're selflessly and anonymously and breathlessly fighting injustice and war crimes. I mean, whose sentences wouldn't run on, and on, and on, like the deEnergizer (dumb) bunny?

Actually, I don't usually criticize other people's writing, except that in his very next post, he says:

...I see the usual suspects: Ken Layne, Will Vehrs, Rand Simberg, Tim Blair and others. The first thing I'm struck by is how mediocre and third-rate the writing is. That's too be expected, I suppose.

At least I'm in good company. And note that in the last sentence, he uses the word "too," when he obviously intends "to." The irony is intense. As Christopher Johnson notes in the comments section, "Pot, meet kettle."

Hmmm..."I'm struck by...how mediocre and third-rate the writing is..."

Maybe I'll put that up as my new blog slogan.

Ah, well, guess I should quit reading blogs, and get back to pitchforking babies, like the rest of my partners in war crime...

[Sunday night update]

This is too hilarious.

That's too (sic!) be expected, I suppose.

He didn't correct it. He didn't explain it. He just added a (sic!), as though it was someone else writing it, and he was reporting it.

What an idiot.

And he's still got no commas in the never-ending sentence.

I find a food processor is a lot easier, my back gets real sore after a day of pitchforking. Make sure you get one with a really good motor, though, those cheap-o knock offs don't last long.

Notice how the kid follows up the "mediocre" and "third-rate" remarks with, "That's too be expected"? Pot? This is Kettle calling...

Posted by Christopher Johnson at April 14, 2002 02:26 PM

Doh!

I didn't even notice that. Great catch.

Posted by Rand Simberg at April 14, 2002 02:34 PM

Myria - is that how they make baby oil?

Nice article...

It seems to me that "too" is grammatically correct there, and doesn't need a (sic).

But then, I suppose that "Eric" doesn't know anything about grammar, either.

Posted by John "Akatsukami" Braue at April 15, 2002 07:35 AM

No, it's incorrect. It should be "to."

Posted by Rand Simberg at April 15, 2002 10:19 AM

That's not even how you use it. "Sic" should be enclosed in square becakets like this -- [sic]

Posted by John McGuinness at April 15, 2002 01:52 PM

You need to quit your whining, Rand. Face it: you are a mediocre writer. Better luck in the next life space boy!

Posted by Eric Blair at April 15, 2002 11:28 PM

Hey, admit it?

I'm proud! It's my new slogan (see above).

Check out what The Captain has to say about this guy.(http://www.denbeste.nu/cd_log_entries/2002/04/TheTrollblogger.shtml) I think he's right.

"The irony is intense" ??? It may not be grammatically incorrect but it is mediocre writing. Although it has to be said that it isn't nearly as mediocre as the piss poor bilge spouted by that Blair fellow. Tim, that is. Tony too, come to think of it.

Posted by at April 16, 2002 06:51 AM

Well, since that renowned literary critic, "Eric Blair," says it's mediocre, it must be so.

Oh, wait! We don't know how renowned he (or she) is, because we don't even *know who it is...*

Or care.

Posted by Rand Simberg at April 16, 2002 07:05 AM

Did anyone catch the additional obvious(at least to me) grammatical landmine? In the last line of his first paragraph:

"I just hope for the sake of your children's private schooling savings fund that you didn't quit you day job."

Perhaps, Mr. Blair, it would be a good idea for you to retain "you" day job as well.

Posted by Mark Calvert at April 19, 2002 10:38 AM

If folks would take the time to write their blogs in Word, use the spell-and-grammar check, and then paste into the comments, we could all spend more time on the content.

I don't believe you didn't do the follow up on his idiotic Jenin rant, where he gloats at the prospect of all the confused warbloggers waking up to the awefullnes of thier misguided warmongering now that the Horror Of Jenin has been exposed, only to go very quiet in the following days when it was all revealed to be bullshit propaganda. Does this shake his faith in the honesty of his buddy Yassir and his liberal mouthpieces in the west? Does it promote a reassesment? Nope. The whole affair is simply sent down the memory hole and not mentioned again.

It's almost like an idiotarian case study.

Posted by amosKeet0 at July 23, 2002 08:28 PM

How do you spell "disastrous" again?

Posted by Aaron Haspel at August 22, 2002 12:05 PM

He's a troll! He's a freaking web comedian! Don't waste your time...please check out the very earnest posters (does this guy get traffic trolling or what?) responding to him. The more he baits his respondents the more satirical it gets. Sly ol' Eric's got everyone burning up and burning bandwidth. Go elsewhere, you've been hooked.

Posted by John at November 15, 2002 06:40 PM

Why are these so obsessed with 'watching?' They watch LGF, Instapundit, Andrew Sullivan Tim Blair, James Lileks ... James Lileks! Their lives seem to be devoted to 'watching' others, what is up with that? It's as if they can't think of anything interesting to write on their own, so they're going to monitor what others write and comment on that with cliches & poor logic.

Just an observation ...

...Hmmm. Sounds more like to me it's a case of the pot asking the kettle to pass the bong.
