Who Watches The Watcher?

I'm almost certainly not the only person to point it out, but we need to keep hammering on this point: the irony of the federal government investigating anyone else's accounting practice is profound. If I kept my books like these guys, I'd have been locked up long ago.

Enron will be pillaried for taking liberties with GAAP. The government has never even tried to issue statements in accordance with GAAP.

Excellent points all. I just had lunch with (among others) Martin Hutchinson, UPI's economics editor, who is putting the boot into the new budget's accounting in his next column. I'll try to link to it on England's Sword when it come out.
