No ID Cards Or Random Wiretaps, Please--We're Californians
Encouraging news from, of all places, the Oakland Tribune. Apparently, Californians at least are not all that willing to, in Franklin's words, "sacrifice essential liberty for temporary safety." This doesn't bode well for the current airline-security abomination.

In 1972, California voters overwhelmingly added the right to Privacy to the California Constitution's Declaration of Rights:
ARTICLE 1 DECLARATION OF RIGHTS
SECTION 1. All people are by nature free and independent and have
inalienable rights. Among these are enjoying and defending life and
liberty, acquiring, possessing, and protecting property, and pursuing
and obtaining safety, happiness, and privacy.
I had a cogent comment to add, but when I used the "Preview your Comment" function, it informed me that I had omitted my name, or something else, and that I should go "back" and correct the omission. When I did so, the entire form was blank.
Alas, I cannot duplicate my divinely inspired and ever so wise commentary in short order. So I'll omit it. A warning to "copy" one's commentary into the clipboard buffer before using "Preview" would be nice.
Nice 'blog though.

Sorry 'bout that. I'm in the process of switching over to a less buggy software package.
