On Race: “No, He Can’t”

Thoughts from Andrew Breitbart:

My long-held fear is that Mr. Obama is hiding something about his education. During the endless 2008 campaign, Mr. Obama would not release his college grades. Given that President George W. Bush and Sens. Al Gore and John Kerry all had proved mediocre grades were no impediment to a presidential bid, Mr. Obama likely had other concerns.

While I have no desire to see Mr. Obama’s birth certificate, I do want to see his college transcripts. My suspicion, one could even call it a conspiracy theory, is that Mr. Obama committed himself to a radical curriculum, aligned himself with the far-left professoriate, and sought to keep this biographical information from his political enemies, especially then-rival Hillary Rodham Clinton, for fear that they would paint the former community organizer and follower of the Rev. Jeremiah Wright as something other than an advocate of racial reconciliation.

Through his acts over the last few weeks, Mr. Obama has reinforced my fears and my admittedly speculative thesis. He has shown he has neither the desire to provide a fresh angle on race, nor wants to draw attention to the bad ideas that dominate higher education and stifle the mainstream media.

Not only were there no fresh ideas about race and living in multiethnic America, but there were hardly even any stale ones. Perhaps this was because Mr. Obama’s and Mr. Gates’ initial – and thus probably most authentic – reactions in playing the race card had proved so unpopular, and so they just wanted to have their frosted malt beverages and get outta Dodge.

But for whatever reason – this ballyhooed beer summit proved merely to be a semi-private photo-op that just happened to be held at 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. There were rote, banal and opaque statements, with no public discussion, no interaction with reporters, or even with voices as identifiably conservative as Mr. Gates is identifiably liberal. For what Mr. Obama had called a “teachable moment,” the teachers were pretty much absent and there wasn’t even much of a lesson plan.

What a fraud this guy is. One also wonders why the administration is spending so much legal resources to avoid showing the original birth certificate, when they could simply end the controversy by releasing it.

Fortunately, while, as Lincoln said, you can fool some of the people all of the time, the number of those people seems to be shrinking, and below a majority in recent polls, at least among likely voters.

Comment Of The Week

Particular after the latest legislative atrocity passed the house with the help of eight RINOS. Andrea Harris:

…my, what a bunch of glass-half-empty gloomy gusses you global warmy climate changenists are. Human ingenuity managed to survive the last great Ice Age, and that was when we were a small, fragile population that used bones and rocks as tools. And in fact, we increased and civilization was formed as the climate started warming — yes, floods and all — and the glaciers receded, leaving more land to learn to grow stuff in. You’re saying the human race is now too weak and stupid to survive a possible moderate increase in global temperature? (Which actually seems to be decreasing, but never mind.) Maybe we should start a new slogan: “Surviving Climate Change: So Complicated, Only A Caveman Could Do It.”

I think we’d do better with cave men running Congress. Maybe the White House, too.

Not to mention the press.

The Cultural Imperialists

…of the leftist feminist movement:

The trust-fund ladies and their friends in Hollywood go to Iran talk to hand-picked Iranians while their “travel handlers,” who are plain-clothed Revolutionary Guards, assigned by the regime, are watching every move people make and every word they utter to the visitors. The ladies of leisure take publicity photos in the mandatory Islamic robes and head covers and come home to talk about their visit to the “exotic Islamic third world.” Iranian women call them “Cultural Imperialists.”

Cultural Imperialists attend the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony, praising the woman selected by the Islamic regime, but they will not utter one word of support for the real activists, the women who are in prisons, getting tortured and hanged, trying to take back their place among the respected people in the world.

It is a fact that the feminist American culture, the culture of Hollywood, is one of the major issues that Islamists like Khomeini, Bin Laden, Hezbollah, the Muslim brotherhood, and the Taliban have against America and the West. But this culture supports the Islamists by its silence and indifference to the issue of human rights. The Stoning of Soraya M. should have received many academy awards, many Cannes awards, and many movie reviews. It is the least this culture can do for the Iranian women suffering to gain the same human rights that American feminists exploit.

What can you do, though, when you live in the second-worst country in the history of the world? Be thankful you don’t live in Israel, I guess.

The Climate Change Climate Change

Kim Strassel:

Among the many reasons President Barack Obama and the Democratic majority are so intent on quickly jamming a cap-and-trade system through Congress is because the global warming tide is again shifting. It turns out Al Gore and the United Nations (with an assist from the media), did a little too vociferous a job smearing anyone who disagreed with them as “deniers.” The backlash has brought the scientific debate roaring back to life in Australia, Europe, Japan and even, if less reported, the U.S.

In April, the Polish Academy of Sciences published a document challenging man-made global warming. In the Czech Republic, where President Vaclav Klaus remains a leading skeptic, today only 11% of the population believes humans play a role. In France, President Nicolas Sarkozy wants to tap Claude Allegre to lead the country’s new ministry of industry and innovation. Twenty years ago Mr. Allegre was among the first to trill about man-made global warming, but the geochemist has since recanted. New Zealand last year elected a new government, which immediately suspended the country’s weeks-old cap-and-trade program.

The number of skeptics, far from shrinking, is swelling. Oklahoma Sen. Jim Inhofe now counts more than 700 scientists who disagree with the U.N. — 13 times the number who authored the U.N.’s 2007 climate summary for policymakers. Joanne Simpson, the world’s first woman to receive a Ph.D. in meteorology, expressed relief upon her retirement last year that she was finally free to speak “frankly” of her nonbelief. Dr. Kiminori Itoh, a Japanese environmental physical chemist who contributed to a U.N. climate report, dubs man-made warming “the worst scientific scandal in history.” Norway’s Ivar Giaever, Nobel Prize winner for physics, decries it as the “new religion.” A group of 54 noted physicists, led by Princeton’s Will Happer, is demanding the American Physical Society revise its position that the science is settled. (Both Nature and Science magazines have refused to run the physicists’ open letter.)

Meanwhile, we have a bait and switch:

The stink surrounding the Pelosi-Waxman-Markey cap-and-tax bill has become vomit-inducing overnight. Representative Waxman has decided to replace the 1091-page bill with a 300-page bill that will be debated for no longer than three hours today. So your elected representatives will have virtually no time to debate the merits of an economy-spanning bill they will not have had time to read. Speaker Pelosi and her sidekick Waxman are displaying nothing more than complete contempt for the democratic process.

If you’re as utterly disgusted by this as I am, you can send a message to Pelosi and her cronies by telling your Congressmen to vote against this bill. You can e-mail them, call them (202-225-3121), or text the National Taxpayers Union on 54608 and they will help.

Calling the Democrats the “Democratic Party” is the biggest fraudulent advertisement since The Never-Ending Story.

Tar. Feathers. Rail.

We called this morning.

[Afternoon update]

Fifteen reasons to oppose the bill.

WordPress Bleg

In Moveable Type, on the front page, there was a separator between one day’s posts and the next with a day/date (see The Corner for an example). There should be one between the two posts below this one. It seems like it ought to be a standard feature, but I cannot for the life of me figure out how to do this in WP at all, after scouring the documentation. Does anyone have an idea?

Chutzpah

As Jim Geraghty notes, it goes right along with his complaining about borrowing and spending:

Other NRO folk who have much more knowledge and background in the relevant matters have commented on President Obama’s address at the graduation ceremony at Notre Dame. I’ll just add that perhaps the man who said his foes “take pride in being ignorant”, who said his opponents wanted to “do nothing” in the face of the recession and who characterized rural voters as clinging “to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment” is perhaps the wrong person to call upon the public to stop “reducing those with differing views to caricature.”

Again, the cognitive dissonance of his supporters is a wonder of nature.
