No, if it’s not working, I don’t know why. It was when I first installed it.

I took the weekend off from blogging, because after having been back in the house for two years, we finally decided to paint the living room/dining room.
OK, so after getting a speeding ticket a few blocks from the Frank Borman auto dealer last night, I’m driving my U-Haul special F-150 back down to El Paso (I may check with the local ATF office before I leave and see if they’d like me to deliver a few dozen government-funded machine guns to Juarez on the way, for a little extra income — I’ve got plenty of room in the bed, and I hear that they’re running low. Maybe some grenades, too. Maybe even MANPADS, if they’re on special this week).
Anyway, then on to LA this evening.
OK, so I’ve got this new GUI in Fedora 15 (haven’t played much with it yet, because it’s on my laptop, and haven’t been traveling). What does it mean when there is nothing on the screen except the time in the top center, and my name in the upper right corner with a lock icon? I can move the cursor around, but I can’t unlock it. The only way out I’ve found is to ctrl-function to a terminal, log in as root, and reboot. What am I missing here?
I’m flying into El Paso tomorrow afternoon for the ISPCS in Las Cruces, and I apparently didn’t reserve a car in time, because there are now none available. This is complicated by the fact that I’m not staying at the conference hotel, so I would also need a ride from where I’m staying to and from the Ranch Museum. Is anyone else getting in about that time (late afternoon) with a car who could at least get me to the Encanto?
[Update a few minutes later]
Well, there’s a shuttle for forty-five bucks (fifty if I don’t reserve today). So I guess that’s my fall-back.
Nautilus seems to be broken in my installation of Fedora 14. I try to launch it, and it appears in the task bar momentarily and then disappears. Anyone have any suggestions?
[Update a couple minutes later]
I’ve already uninstalled/reinstalled, in case anyone was going to suggest that.
[Update a while later]
Don’t know why, but now it’s working. Go figure.
I may use this as the basis for a new blog theme. It obviously needs a lot of tweaking in the style sheets.
[Evening update]
Folks, if you want to complain about the new theme, do it here, not at the previous post. I don’t want to have to carry on two discussions.
And as I’ve said repeatedly, I’m just trying to move it from circa 2005 to modern times, in terms of functionality. I’ll worry about aesthetics later. Not that I don’t want suggestions on the latter, but don’t expect a response to them immediately.
For instance, I now have “Like” buttons, and “Reply” to comments. I don’t want to go back.
Also, if someone with graphic talent wants to come up with a new header graphic similar to the old one, I’d appropriate it gratefully. It doesn’t have to be the same, and I’m open to upgrades, but I’d like it to have some heritage. 980×100, please…
[Update early evening, before settling in to watch Verlander and the Tigers against the Yankees]
Yes, I do hate the blockquote style — why do you ask? It will be the second thing I tackle in the style sheets after colors.
OK, I don’t know what’s wrong with it, but somehow my theme got broken during the night, which is why you haven’t seen any updates here until now. At least now I can communicate and maybe figure out what’s going on.
I’m going down to Long Beach to the AIAA space conference, and probably won’t take a laptop. I may post something or tweet from my phone, but probably not a lot.
No, I have not had any problems with my v@ginal mesh implants.
[Late afternoon update]
And no, this is not a testimonial.
