…but, but, that would contribute to Gorebal Warming!!!!
The basic problem is this: the politicians have created legal workarounds for corruption. It is immoral for foreign corporations and governments to pay the families of US politicians in the expectation that they will get preferential treatment. But it isn’t illegal, because why would they make that law? The same as buying/selling millions of books (Clintons), or art (Obama), etc.
You can’t use the law to control corruption in politicians. They control the law.
…but rest assured, we have the fairest, most honest elections on the planet bar none!
“It is immoral for foreign corporations and governments to pay the families of US politicians in the expectation that they will get preferential treatment. But it isn’t illegal, because why would they make that law?”
I believe that it is illegal influence peddling; furthermore it’s considered bribery for Joe Biden to solicit bribes on the behest of his family (even if he himself never touched the money which I doubt of course).
There is the lawyers’ saying, “If the facts are on your side, pound on the facts. If the law is on your side, pound on the law.” The law being on your side, by the way, is what lay persons would call “getting a guilty person off on a legal technicality” because the presumption is if your client were innocent, you would have started with the facts.
This saying finishes with, “If neither are on your side, pound on the table.” I think we are hearing thumping sounds about now, but politics has become so partisan that pounding the table may be an effective strategy. I don’t see any Howard Baker or Barry Goldwater emerging, here.
The Kushner-KSA deal just looks and smells like hell. Fully acknowledging the many, many differences between him and Hunter, he couldn’t have just taken a pass? Maybe not fair, but that’s the world. It’s not as if there aren’t a lot of others in the business. Again, Kushner has been in this business for a long time, one of his most salient differences with Hunter.
Not that one thing has anything to do with the other.

This. Another problem here is that the Bidens’ activities were while Joe Biden was in office with some strong indications that it was paying for access to Joe Biden – a felony. Further, Hunter Biden literally had no value to anyone outside of this access to Biden. In the Kushner case, Trump is out of office and Jared Kushner at least has an investment firm and experience handling the sort of money that the Saudis are throwing at him. We also don’t have evidence of a crime associated with his father in law, Donald Trump.
That’s not all they are blowing…
