We’re getting our electrical service upgraded from 40 amps to 125 today, and power will be out most of the day, so probably no more posting before this evening.

My first thought was, 40 amps?! Mine is 200, but my well pump alone draws 70.
Mine too. Rand, are you living in a house old enough that electrical wiring was an add-on or afterthought? Is this the whole house or a specific circuit? Even my childhood home built long before we moved into it in 1959 had 60 Amp service. The residential construction standard has been 100 Amps for decades and was stepped up to 200 Amps about a decade ago IIRC.
Hawaii and parts of coastal California didn’t really need heating and air conditioning, just lighting and some appliances.
Couple that with the age of the home and that makes total sense, thanks George.
