Credit Where It’s Due

Joe Biden does something right (which is huge news, because it is unprecedented).

He could be doing more, though, in terms of easing up on archaic NRC rules to allow the construction of more modern plant designs faster. And as is often noted, it’s hard to take seriously people who claim that we are in a climate “crisis” or “emergency” if they don’t support nuclear power.

Sorry, I’ve provided the link this time.

  1. Link?

it’s hard to take seriously people who claim that we are in a climate “crisis” or “emergency” if they don’t support nuclear power.

Right. For those people it’s not a climate crisis per se, that’s only a symptom, the root cause is a crisis of affluence or consumerism. To solve we must lower our standards (of living), to which I reply, your kids first….

  2. Besides refurbishing old or existing nuclear plants, how about a robust national program of re-cycling and re-processing spent nuclear fuel? Why are we storing tons of this stuff in hazardous on-site pools when it could be powering reactors?

    1. “The Washington Examiner reported last week that Biden committed $6 billion toward saving financially distressed commercial nuclear power plants. This is good. But Biden needs to do more. ”

      Committed, not already paid out.
Or Biden has not done anything in 1 1/2 years.
If already had money out the door, and had some idea
about what was done, it would be moderately good news for a president who campaigned in favor of nuclear power.
And not clear why they are distressed- should they be bailed out.
And finally, old nuclear power, should be the focus, we need something like UK doing {and it actually works- who knows if what UK doing will work}.
