Global warming cannot damage the Earth, but can damage man. Man is doomed to extinction in the long term, in any case, so who is going to determine when man’s time is up? If humankind were to be wiped out tonight, who would mourn its passing?
We have learned to live with and adapt to all manner of changes in the past. We shall continue to do so in the future, but the life of a man today is not worth damaging merely to ensure that the life of another man tomorrow is better. The latter may seem to unthinking idealists to be a very generous ideal, but the present is the only thing to matter to a man and he will always fight for the present rather than the future.
