  3. I find it both amazing and infuriating that the people who are most loudly saying “follow the science” literally do not know what science is.

    A telltale is when they say “the science is settled”. That’s proof that they know not of which they speak.

    That is some in your face bigotry. Did they learn this in school or on Reddit? Their hidden belief is that some people are incapable of rational thought, they are less evolved/enlightened, and that these people can’t/shouldn’t use technology.

    Some Christians don’t believe in everything about evolution that people who hold science as a religion do. Other Christians never had a problem with the concept of evolution. Leftists always want to dictate to Christians what they can and cannot believe in. Their views are always based in some bigoted and racist stereotypes that they have for people.

    An individual’s views on evolution is immaterial. Your beliefs on evolution have no impact on your daily life or your ability to use technology, use rational thought, or engage in science. This is true whether you believe in evolution or don’t. Many, if not most, people who believe in evolution know nothing about it. They didn’t adopt their belief through knowledge but through inculcation and group think. They accept origin of life origin myths as an article of faith. Many of them also know nothing of evolution of humans and likely believe things about us evolving from apes that are not exactly true.

    None of this stops them from using rational thought or engaging in science but it does show a total lack of self awareness and creates blind spots in how they think that could cause some serious problems.

    1. The other day I saw that another college was saying they have to stop teaching evolution because Darwin’s theory supports male white supremacy.

      1. Sometimes I go to a site called ground news. They have a section where they show how much coverage stories get from the left and right. The site leans left itself and misses a lot of the places people on the right get news, which is probably the same for the left.

        I dont think many people in the left know anything about all the craziness their party is up to.

  5. Many people against wearing masks arrived at their position before engaging in rational thought, which is fine. It is just a starting point. A healthy back and forth on issues is how we collectively find problems and solutions. Protecting this relationship should be a top priority to anyone claiming they want to deal with a serious issue. People who shut down examination aren’t really interested in the issue. They are interested in control.

  6. Fortunately, yesterday was VM Day – Victory over Masks. The CDC finally announced that fully vaccinated people no longer need wear masks indoors, and OBiden made a statement to that effect. Local talk radio host Larry O’Connor devoted the first hour of his show to the event, celebrating it. The best caller I heard comment was the last one. He said that whoever is running the Biden Administration [hint: his last name begins with an “O”] finally looked at some polling data, and decided it was time to give up the mask insanity. That’s the only “data” that went into the decision. I tend to agree with that observation.

    1. Fauci had it right at the beginning. If you are already sick and you are in a crowded area, masking helps others some, slightly better than sneezing into your sleeve and much better than just blasting it out in the air but not as good as social distancing. If you are not already sick, wearing a mask, esp. a surgical mask, won’t protect you from viral infections. If you can smell cigarette smoke through a mask (and I have), that ought to be your first clue as to how effective it is against a virus. If masks were that great, BSL-4 labs would only require you to wear a mask., not a spacesuit. Insane, contemptuous, virtue signalling.

      1. Airborne viruses. Blood born pathogens is another story entirely. Ironically, even though Ebola was orders of magnitude more deadly than SAR-CoV2, being a blood-born pathogen made even surgical masks effective at protection as long as the wearer didn’t get sloppy with it and got it off and disinfected at the first sign of contamination.

        But as a pandemic, in terms of statistical deaths and numbers of infections, SARS2 rates way up there. Way past Ebola.

        1. I’ve been taking measured risks since before the mania broke out. I saw the reports from China and while our media said, “Dont worry, it isnt as bad as the flu”, I went out and bought extra food. I already had some masks at the time but not enough to last.

          At one point, I bought some nice wildland firefighting goggles expecting them to be mandated since the virus can get in through your eyes. That never happened and I never wore them because I look like a big enough dork with my glasses.

          There was just so much of the response that didn’t make much sense, if we were to believe everything we were told.

          Here is a good example. When I went to get vaccinated, they made people go through a metal detector. Men had to empty their pockets into a bowl and women just had to had their purse to the worker, who handed right back with no peeks. The little bowls never got cleaned despite everyone putting their cellphone in them but inside, each chair was cleaned after someone sat in it. I never got a look at the pens and clipboards after they were taken away but I wouldnt be surprised if one or both did or didn’t get cleaned.

          So many inconsistencies. Do masks work? How do we know when no one wears them correctly. Do lockdowns work? How do we know when everyone used to opportunity to hang out at home depot everyday?

          1. I had a supply of 5-ply masks to wear while mowing the lawn, but since those ran out I’m stuck with 3-ply made in Wuhan. I do still have some filters for the toxic vapor mask I wear varnishing and spray painting, but it’s not worth the effort. I even reuse my paper masks.

          2. I saw a comment over at Instapundit, yeah I read the comments and see you people over there, for Ambhurst. They are an American mask company. I bought some. They just finished their n95 line and they arent fully through approval but you can buy them now.

            Looks like we don’t need to mask anymore but I’m going to get their n95 ones anyway because I think their effort should be rewarded.

            It really bothered me that I might have to wear a substandard China mask when the virus came from a Chinese lab. When the booster shots are made in China, I suspect we will see stories about horrible quality.

  7. I didn’t get a shot until WalMart opened for walk-ins. Before that it was TMT. Since they had the J&J, I got that, and had zero side effects. Interesting that the J&J keeps getting pulled for one reason or another. Makes me think about the theory adrift in Tinfoilhatland: the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are the bioweapons being emplaced for a later trigger, with covid the arming mechanism. Be pretty funny if we get in a shooting war with the CPR and suddenly half or more of the population drops dead, kiddies and all.

    1. I had moderna. After the first shot, I was sick for 2-3 days. After the second, was sick for 3-4 days but much more severe. Without going into details, it was pretty bad. So, 5-7 days with induced illness so that I don’t get the plague and be sick for 7ish days.

      As a bonus, my arm itches at the injection site over a week later.

  8. Some of the anti-mask people are more scientific-minded than Establishment journalists? That’s a very low bar.

    An example of just how bad Establishment journalists are: A recent claim about vaccines has been going around. According to some people, a magnet is injected with the vaccines and magnets stick to the vaccination site. I tried testing that with my vaccinated arm and it didn’t work.

    Meanwhile, you can find numerous “debunkings” of this online. All of those debunkings are based on asking alleged experts. Nobody tried sticking a magnet to their arm. Nobody asked the readers to try sticking magnets to their arms.

    Sigh.
