  2. This article reads more like an argument for why Trump should run as a Libertarian in 2024 rather than for why Libertarians ought to vote Republican. I feel the corruption is strong in both parties.
    However…

    In 2022 and 2024 we can expect the Democrats to play the ‘Reichstag Fire’, er, I mean the ‘Capitol Insurrection’ card to heavily discredit any dissenting vote. I will not vote for another Democrat until the barricades around the Capitol come down and the National Guard is sent home. That is my requirement for me to even consider a win of my vote, i.e. it is necessary but not sufficient. It is non-negotiable.

            Some of the most contentious conversations I have had are with atheists who deny they are a religion or engage in magical thinking. I think it is due in large part to so many of them not coming to their position through rational thought or philosophical contemplation but rather through in/out group bigotry. Usually, but not always, age plays a role with young atheists being very different than older ones. But there are some older well known atheists that are exceptional in their lack of self awareness.

          5. Wodun, Atheists usually define atheism as the absence of a belief in any Gods, Theists usually define atheism as the belief in the absence of any Gods – the latter definition being somewhat self serving – it enables theists to call atheism a religion.

          8. An agnostic is a person who believes that nothing is known or can be known of the existence or nature of God, which is not the same as having a lack of belief in a God or Gods.
            A person can be an agnostic theist – believing in a God but accepting their belief in is not knowledge of, ditto agnostic atheist. The term agnostic is only about 150 years old and its use has likely caused confusion over the definition of atheist, contributing to the use of the religious definition that theists usually use.

      1. I could vote for a Democrats at the local level if I knew them and they weren’t a commie. I would consider voting for a Democrat at the national level if they kick out the Progressive Fascists, but then they wouldn’t have a party.

        1. I’ve met several Democrats at the local level, some are friends, but I wouldn’t want them anywhere near government, locally or otherwise.

      Former Libertarian here – then I got to meet some of the hard core L party true believers. They HATED Republicans because at that time the neo-cons/Christians were running the party. They preferred social liberal Democrats and were as doctrinaire as any socialist with a zeal for following a simplistic but attractive ideal – but instead of Socialist “forced general equality” their vision was for near zero government. So effectively open borders and easy access to drugs. Both of which have destroyed California and moved the Country towards a worse authoritarianism than it ever was under with the Clintons or Bushes.

    Sorry, I don’t buy that argument in the least. The lesser of two evils argument has been responsible for most of the decline of the past half century.

    It’s time to destroy the two party system. And I don’t mind seeing the Republicans go gently first. In large part, it’s because I don’t see them as an improvement over the Democrats. They have their own snowflakes, wokes, hypocrites, and other garbage. The competition would clean out a lot of these parasitive and destructive elements.

      That is nonsense. How would a 3,4,5 party system be better? To govern there would have to be coalitions formed and we would still end up with one coalition of statists and another of non statists.

      The left didn’t gain power by forming a third party, they knew doing that would weaken them, they gained power by completely taking control of an existing party. That’s what we non statists have to do if we stand any chance of wrestling control back from the statists.

        Except when the various factions don’t cooperate in this way.

        The left didn’t gain power by forming a third party, they knew doing that would weaken them, they gained power by completely taking control of an existing party.

        The left is not that unified. I think it’s devolved to a sort of moocher’s compact – things like don’t rat on each other and don’t get too greedy at the trough. But we already know of several examples of disunity: the anti-Israel stance of a good portion of the space, their tendency to turn on each other over trivial matters (canceling fellow cancelers), and a growing divide with labor unions.

        It’s only the similar weakness (and strong ideological differences) of the Republican party that keeps this situation stable.

    I had that attitude in 2016, living in Georgia and certain that my vote couldn’t possibly deny Trump my state’s electoral votes. And of course Trump won Georgia and the presidency, and took no time at all to win over this erstwhile skeptic.

    So in 2020 I voted for Trump in Georgia and, well…

    I just don’t know what to think anymore.

      1. Which of course will make them weak for awhile as the malcontents leave. You need to complete the process between election cycles. Republicans could and should pick up blue-collar Democrats, Latinos and African-American voters. Esp. the latter, as its is really becoming apparent that the Democratic Party is taking them for granted and a ride….

          Cant speak for Latinos but as far as African-American male voters are concerned I think Trump made significant inroads as far as getting their vote. Whether that will translate to other GOP POTUS candidates in the future remains to be seen. How do you rationally argue with lowest black unemployment rates (before COVID) in 50 years? African-American females no where near as much; for reasons probably rooted more in raw emotion than reason/logic they remain fanatically loyal to the dems.

          1. Identity politics is hard to counter. People don’t necessarily vote on issues but the racial views inculcated in them by the Democrat party.

            I think the barriers are coming down for different groups of people being able to interact with each other and this is a way to counter Democrat’s stereotyping, and stereotypes in general.

            There was this big push after Romney lost to make Republicans embrace Democrat ideology but Trump shows Republicans just need to be themselves and let other people see it. Republican ideology appeals to all races.

    1. Larry O’Connor noted that during a recent encounter with the press, Biden took some questions with the caveat that he could only take a few. When they kept coming, he repeatedly said “This will have to be the last one, or I’ll be in trouble.” O’Connor made the very reasonable observation that Biden is the President of the United States, arguably the most powerful man on Earth, and asked: “With whom could he possibly be ‘in trouble'”?

      Good question. Probably Shadow President Obama…
