I don’t know the whole answer, but our short term problem would be mitigated if people would take to heart Lindsey Graham’s speech last night about 1876, Al Gore, and having faith in the judiciary: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB59LFoNto8
Faith in the judiciary?
Well, the USSC caused the last civil war, and now this one
I’m not sure the Democrats rioting and occupying buildings in Seattle and Portland give a rip what Graham says. What is going on isn’t a problem with Trump supporters, their reaction is based in large part on the last 5 years of Democrat violence directed at them from coast to coast and the fascist canceling by companies controlled by Democrats.
Democrats have been mudering people, beating them, burning down their businesses, and even canceling people’s bank accounts.
How can we have faith in a judiciary staffed with Democrats who dont believe in rule of law but instead that the law means what ever they need it to on any given day? Stacy Abrams’ sister was ruling on elections stuff. Democrats are corrupt to the core.
Bob, to paraphrase a bit of ancient wisdom:
When you pratter on about how wonderful you are, you probably aren’t.
Sorry Rand, no more Bob comments.
Is that the same Lindsey Graham who acted as Maverick McCain’s sidekick and stooge when the Dems were trying to import millions of peasants from Central America, or nationalize the health industry, or start another war? The same Lindsey Graham who talks big when it doesn’t matter and runs and hides when it does?
Being lectured on civility by these oh-so-gracious losers of the Stupid Party has gotten really tiresome. They need to come up with a new schtick, or at least shut up and stop reminding us that they are still around.
Lindsey Graham is a total schmuck – everyone has a reason to dislike him at this point – but it is an ad hominem fallacy to think his awfulness has any bearing on whether he is right or not.
Well, I dislike and mistrust him.
And he’s wrong, and a hypocrite.
Fortunately, it’s easy to see that he’s both awful and wrong, and observe that those don’t have to be connected to be true.
Graham said we should all accept high court rulings ( just as we should all have accepted the Supreme Court ruling in Bush v. Gore, just as Gore did). That’s a deeply conservative message, a law and order message, and people here are rejecting that message. As I said, Graham did not get at the whole solution to the problem of restoring faith in elections, but it is incredibly sad that a bunch of conservatives here can’t even agree to respect the judiciary.
It is not a ‘law and order’ message: It is a statist message.
And if accepting a decision by the USSC is the metric, then we should still have slaves, separate but equal, and other such wonderful decisions.
People disagree with judges all the time, especially Democrat judges who don’t make decisions based on the law.
You’re right it’s ad hominem. How much does someone have to lie and deceive before they finally lose credibility and trust? Especially someone with the power to actually accomplish something? I care how [expletives deleted] noble is words are, if they never lead to actual noble deeds.
Right now all sorts of these so-called “conservative” posers are falling over themselves to prove how “appalled” they are by resigning jobs they are about to lose anyhow in a couple of weeks. Way to virtue signal!!!
(By the way, Ellen Chao resigned from the Cabinet, supposedly over yesterday. If they were serious about invoking the 25th amendment, she’d want to stay on to be part of that vote, right?)
Thoughts:
Lindsey and Mitch hope they enjoy their last 6 years in office. Once the Congress ‘encourages’ the adoption of universal mail-in balloting by all the States via the power of the purse, we won’t be hearing anymore of the party of stupid. Of course they can always switch parties.
It isn’t a given the Puerto Rico wants statehood. In fact quite the opposite these days. Of course they could have a mail-in ballot referendum to decide…. DC’s share of the Electoral College would be very small, but the point of that is to have solid Blue two seats in the Senate. However, I think these are both long shots and unlikely.
In the ideal world, the Congress would appoint an independent commission with, most importantly, subpoena powers; to report on the 2020 election and to make recommendations and proposals for preventing fraudulent outcomes. Including passing along, publicly, any recommendations for indictments to the Justice Dept. against individuals or organizations that have committed election fraud. The latter might require enabling legislation, I’d have to check. The erosion to our democracy through suspicion and doubt about the fairness to our elections is so corrosive now it cannot be ignored. You might very well believe that this election was totally fair and honest. You might be 100% correct. And that’s still not the point.
Donald J Trump will be prosecuted in the State of NY for tax or bank fraud. He cannot pardon himself for that. And the Democrat machine has every incentive to prosecute and obtain a conviction to hold him in prison in 2024. One or possibly two more election cycles and he will be too old and feeble to present a threat. No need to Epstein him, doing time will take care of the problem. Interestingly enough, however, it doesn’t appear a standing felony criminal conviction is a dis-qualifier for the Presidency. Trump I suppose could run a campaign from his prison cell ala the Biden Basement Campaign. So maybe it will require an Epsteining. Electing him while serving time would I presume trigger policy shifting from being made in the White House to the Big House.
Any commission would be made up of unserious people incapable finding problems because the intent will be that they don’t find any, it would be all for show. How many times have we seen this over the past 12 years?
Well the likelihood of ANY type of reform by any other ‘lawful means’ is practically speaking zero. I saw on TV a vote was taken recently in the US House for a bill to provide election reform and it went down strictly along party lines, with all Republicans voting yea and all Democrats voting nay.
You may be right, that the only way to fix this is through party politics working from the state and local levels up. My experience with party politics at that level doesn’t make me too hopeful.
It would take organization from the party and dedication from locals. The hurdle is that by their nature, Republicans want to be left alone and a government to leave them alone. Their opponents are highly motivated to not leave people alone and religiously engage in activism to seize power.
The advantage to statehood for DC or PR is in the Senate….
I wonder if there will be any success with a Convention of States.
The problem with an Article-V conference is that there is no way to enforce any rules. And we see how the dems love that.
226 years, we’ve had a good run. As an engineer (before med school) I learned that if something is broken, change it.
Close to 50% of Democrats are out of closet marxists, some portion are in the closet, and the rest are useful idiots. This represents a hundred million people?
A constitutional convention could go very bad for freedom lovers.
A counter would be to allow areas of the states to become new states – as has been discussed before.
The problem is, that would require a Constitutional amendment, which would require the approval of Congress and 3/4 of the states. Good luck with that.
“Donald J Trump will be prosecuted in the State of NY for tax or bank fraud.”
Which will itself be fraudulent. Both the IRS and the NYS equivalent have had his tax returns forever.
He’s already moved his domicile to Florida, and may need to move it to another country – because the dems will chase him everywhere. Maybe Elon can get his plan accelerated.
Oh but things ARE going to go on like this and for quite some time. Minimum of 2 years at least.
Look for all sorts of liberty-killing moves by the Democrats – all of whom will ignore the will of the people if that will does not conform with what they want.
Massachusetts is a classic example:
There was a statewide referendum which required the state income tax to be reduced. It passed by a healthy margin.
The legislature simply…….ignored it.
So if the Dems make a move to take your guns and the Supreme Court says the move they intend to make is unconstitutional I think we can all see, now, that the Dems will simply ignore whatever the supreme court says.
But they will use alleged “slaughter” as justification to pack the court, and do other things, because the court obviously does not have the well-being of the citizens in mind.
This will be the tactic used throughout the government for at least the next 2 years.
Once they proved that they are willing to steal elections and turn us into a banana republic, there’s no limit to how low the Dems will go.
No limit at all.
We are in a generational struggle. Progressive marxists didn’t take control of the Democrat party over night. It took a couple decades. It will take just as long to remove them from power, especially in the education system.
The only way we will ever be able to reform the ‘education system’ is through public school vouchers. And that ain’t happening either.
I don’t think Democrats will provide any help because they want Republicans to view our system is illegitimate, just like they do. Yuri Bezmenov spoke about this, demoralization.
That leaves it up to Republicans to save the country. It has to happen state by state. Any effort will likely be met by gorvernment and corporations trying to destroy the lives of those who try. Remember what Obama did to True the Vote?
Democrats will continue removing all safegaurds from our elections.
Somewhat related, and out of concern, Rand, have you heard from your niece? Is she okay?
No, but she didn’t go alone; the whole family went. I assume they’ve headed back to MI.
Well here’s hoping they are fine and that they stopped off for a meal at an Olive Garden restaurant on the way back…
Good luck guys. The US and Australia (and Taiwan) are going to need it. We can’t rely on good management.
Oz could have it a lot worse. Like the kiwis
Agreed Doc, my wife was born in NZ but has been in OZ since she was 21, 44 years ago. Now dual citizen. Still got 6 surviving siblings plus heaps of nieces, nephews. We worry about NZ. The economic chickens will come to roost soon enough.
And yet Rand keeps saying humans are our greatest resource. Curious.
Where do you think Soylent Green comes from?
“Pets like it too!”
My cow is shaking her head. Lately she’s been charging the barn wall, not sure what’s wrong. But she loves her Soylent Green.
