There is very little actual science behind any of the draconian measures that have been taken.

So I can stop wearing that necklace of fresh garlic when I go shopping? It did encourage people to “social distance” around me.
Not much medical science, but plenty of political science.
Your reaction to the paper should start with this question: If ten million Wuhan residents who had just emerged from many weeks of hard lockdown are tested for covid-19 and there are only a tiny number of positive results, what do you think those positive cases indicate? In addition to false positives, bear in mind that people can test positive long after they’ve been infected. The paper shows, unsurprisingly, that hard lockdowns are effective in stopping the spread of covid-19, and the paper says nothing at all about whether newly infected non-symptomatic people can spread the virus.

What happens when the hard lockdowns end?
To take an alternative view, it’s a paper based on data from China. Why should we believe any of it? Who benefits if we apply its results?
If it’s correct, most of us benefit by being allowed to go back to normal life.
The only thing a communist dictatorship excels at, beside killing their own citizens, is providing a good situation for medical research; isolation.
It is important to be skeptical of science that comports to our desires just as much as it is natural to be skeptical of science that doesn’t. This is especially true because the science is all over the place on this topic.
