Yes, people are trying to scare us into a depression, and much of this is irrational.

They likely already have. How long before it takes a wheelbarrow of cash to buy a loaf of bread. If you have to ask how much it takes to buy a wheelbarrow, you can’t afford it.
Virginia (as distinct from its Governor) has dealt with social distancing and all of the other garbage with relative ease, though in some cases things have gotten worse instead of better as the infection rate declines.
My wife and I go to Costco and Wegman’s every Saturday morning for groceries, and to Home Depot and a few other stores frequently during the week for odd items to support our home projects. The stores are busy, though the shopper density is restricted in order to maintain “social distancing.”
In the entire time all of these restrictions have been in place, I’ve never once heard anyone either cough or sneeze. Not once. How likely is that?
What people are missing: We need to just trust that individuals will make good decisions. In fact, individuals will make better decisions than governments!
The government will say “all bars must close”. While an individual might say, my bar will close until I can think of a way to be open without endangering anyone. Maybe I separate clients with shields. Maybe I only let people order and takeout. Maybe I require that my patrons swim in an alcohol filled pool the entire time!
There are thousands of possibilities. People now know about the problem, and can make informed decisions about what businesses to visit. And the business owners can make informed decisions about how to decrease the risk.
(We had to “flatten the curve” to buy us time to know more. Now we know more.)
The Chinese virus largely kills people over 60 years old.
Since I am 60 years old, I probably should not say it’s not
very lethal, but it apparently has low death rate.
New York State has almost the highest death per million in world,
at moment it’s 1,153 people per million.
Or 1.153 per thousand or .1153 per percent {per hundred}.
But I tend to think it’s around .03 percent.
Or 300 per million
Or of 7 billion world population: 2.1 million would die, in sense
that if world population were all get it at same time within a month
2.1 million would die.
If I think only 300 in million die from it, why does New York State
have 1153 in million deaths?
Good question. Anyhow the highest death per million is at San Marino which is 1208 deaths per million {it’s population is far less than 1 million}
What demographic of San Marino? wiki:
65 years and over: 16% (male 1,849; female 2,452) (2000 est.)
And what is New York State, wiki:
In age demographics: 6.5% of New York’s population were under 5 years of age, 24.7% under 18, and 12.9% were 65 or older.
And total pop is 19,378,102, call it 20 million:
2.58 million 65 or older in the state
And 1% is 25,800
And total death of state is 22,623 or obviously less than 1% of 65 or older died.
And how many 65 or older are in San Marino,
33,439 times 16% is 5350 men and women 65 or older
1% of that is 53.5 people
And total death in San Marino: 41
Or again, obviously, less than 1% of 65 or older died from Covid-19
And in terms age demographic of world, wiki:
65 years and over: 7.9% (male 227,164,176/female 289,048,221) (2011 est.)
How about China:
65 years and over: 10.8% (male 71,103,029/female 77,995,969) (2017 est.)
US:
65 years and over: 16.03% (male 22,678,235/female 28,376,817)
328,953,020 times 16% is 52,632,483
And 1%: 562,324
How about Florida: 20.5% 65 and older
Total pop: 21,299,325 and 20.5% is 4,366,361
And 1% is 43,663
And total death in Florida: 1,088
Or obviously less than .03% could have died from covid-19
Or Governor focused a lot on protecting the large number retirees
in Florida.
Or in terms of per million,
New York State: 1,153
And Florida: 53
So one could roughly say if isolated 65 or older, the chinese virus
kills about .03 percent or about 10 times higher if don’t do a good job at isolating 65 or older people.
Hmm, I thought it was mostly about subways, but I didn’t think San Marino had any subways, so started with age.
I still think it has something about subways, but maybe subways and other confined and crowded space, kills a lot more younger people but this is small percentage chance death, maybe more related to becoming seriously ill which younger people have greater chance of recovering from, but could have long term health risks.
Scare us into a depression? Why? Just so they can expand the power of the State? Would “liberals,” “progressives” and other State-shtuppers do such a thing?
Absolutely.
