I was amazed at how clear it was and then realized that I was watching the original. I have a 4k monitor and watched the upscaled version full screen and was mostly not that impressed. Especially, some of the faces seemed to look like plastic.
It might have been more impressive with a more degraded source.
I thought the action sequence with the train was pretty good, but I was put off by the lack of a well developed central character and an interesting plot.
I got the same sense of it. The upscaled version was obvious to me because of pixelation. These big black squares would occasionally appear and move beside the train. As the faces, what I didn’t notice in the original at first but did in the 4k is that two of the ladies had their faces veiled. When they appeared in 4k, it was jarring, but when they turned around, you see the veil. It wasn’t so ugly in the original. In the 4k, it is more obvious how many people make eye contact with the camera.
It might have been more impressive with a more degraded source. Fully agree, but then, I doubt you could really do better with such a source. It might be something if they used a source like this with neural networks to add color.
