At the Space Settlement Summit a few weeks ago, I pointed out that there are some people who will oppose space settlement not because of the cost, but because they think that humanity is an infestation that must not be allowed to spread beyond the planet of its birth. Here’s a good example (for anyone who was a fan of Momoa before).

Humans do suck, but we’re the only species we’ve got.
I can’t imagine a better species than humans.
If one looks at fiction, I don’t think you can find a better fictional creature.
Now, of course the human writers could be lacking the talent to imagine it, Such fictional creatures such as elves and dwarves are somewhat interesting but that they have magic and/or superpowers is large part of what makes them interesting. And the modern human is quite magical as compared to humans a thousand years ago. Ie they can buy a ticket and fly around the world- plus lot’s of other things.
Perhaps, life in general, sucks.
This has been going on for a long, long time. High school friends of mime, who left for college as space-infatuated as I was, came home saying space exporation was pointless because humans would soon be extinct anyway. On questioning, they had no reason for thinking this, just that it was “the consensus.” And this would have been in 1968-1969!
The left are terrified that we might escape from their clutches, which is inevitable once we get off this planet. They have to keep us here if they’re going to enslave us.
