But his candidates will still split the anti-Remain vote for seats currently held by Labour or the LibDems.
Not if another deal is struck to the effect that Conservatives in Lib/Lab districts will be urged to vote Brexit where the Brexit Party outpolls the Conservatives, say, a week before the election and for Brexit Party voters to vote Conservative in districts where the contrary is true.
There may be some in both parties to whom voting for the party exceeds their desire to boost the U.K’s exit from the EU, but such a deal would at least minimize this sort of bloody-mindedness. There are, of course, likely to be a significant number of Lib/Lab districts that are fated to remain Lib/Lab regardless of what the Tory and Brexit voters do.
