I continue to believe that he could be even more effective if he were able to turn down the volume of the Trump. He’s his own worst enemy.

Victor Hansen Davis is a better writer than a TV talking head.
For me the Trump Era harkens back to the Reagan Era. The politics were almost as polemic, but the key difference today being the Left’s projection of their opponent’s moral character versus mental acuity.
Those of us old enough to remember the Reagan Era also remember the attempt to cast him as either too old or too stupid to be President. That’s why the famous line in the ’84 debate of “…I will not bring up my opponent’s youth and inexperience…” hit home with such effect *back then* and seems a bit trite today. With Trump it’s not really that he’s doddering or stupid, he’s just too corrupt, dishonest and deplorable. I view these characterizations by his opponents as simple projection. Then it makes more sense.
“I continue to believe that he could be even more effective if he were able to turn down the volume of the Trump.”
I disagree. Look at Kavanaugh…decent guy,
They savaged him. And continue to do so. Say the most scurrilous lies about him with no conscience whatsoever.
They would not treat Trump ANY differently even if he turned down the Volume of Trump. That’s a sucker’s game.
Trump knows this. Like his style or not – doesn’t matter.
The LEFT will treat him horribly no matter what he does.
Yes, the Left will treat him horribly no matter what he does. Nonetheless, I wish that he wouldn’t so often say pointless dumb things. Like today, when he said that our space facilities had been shut down and there was crab grass growing through the runways before he came along. It’s not about how the Left will treat him, it’s about how independents would think of him. He could actually grow his base.
It would help with middle class voters who are susceptible to perception of status since they are most easily suckered and manipulated by the media.
Independents don’t care about “dumb things.” The average voter is an idiot and is easily persuaded by dumb things.
President Trump is the only GOP President that understands this fully. The Democrats understand this, they hate the fact that Trump understands the true nature of the average voter as much as they do.
I agree with the disagreement. I think Trump is doing fine with what he does. I do have a problem with some of his supporters, who really are not as savvy as Trump. These are the ones that act like if you don’t agree that Trump really could kill someone in Time Square and get away or fuck any woman he wants whenever, then you’re a dumb cuck that might as well vote socialist. I can accept that elements of the FBI would go to great lengths to frame Trump for murder or some woman would try to blackmail Trump with salacious allegations. But there is a difference that is not very subtle between the two thoughts, yet some supporters seem to miss it. These people give ammunition to the worst beliefs of the left.
Then again, the lefties that continue to frame Trump and Kavanaugh are more than countering the stupidity of a few bad apples supporting Trump.
I love and respect Victor Davis Hanson’s insights, but I do not agree with him on this.
Trump has so enraged his Democratic adversaries that the candidates to replace him have moved farther to the left than any primary field in memory.
No. It’s not because of Trump. They moved there to pander to college-indoctrinated leftists who have reached a point where they are now a significant part of the electorate. Extreme leftist Bernie Sanders was very popular before Trump.
They loathe Trump, but in their abject hatred he has goaded the various Democratic candidates into revealing their support for the crazy Green New Deal, reparations for slavery, relaxed immigration policies and trillions of dollars in new free stuff.
No. It has nothing to do with Trump. AOC’s Green New Deal was picked up by almost every democrat in congress, and those running for president, because they all recognize and fear her popularity with her Twitter followers.
In a way, the left-wing Democratic presidential candidates understand Trump best. If he wins his one-man crusade to stop the progressive project, they are finished, and their own party will make the necessary adjustments and then sheepishly drift back toward the center.
Yes. If Trump wins the crusade–which he leads, but is 65 million people from it being “one-man”–to stop the leftist’s project to fundamentally transform America, he may save America from a fate that we have for many decades traditionally fought to prevent.
And No, the left will never give up; they will never “drift back toward the center” sheepishly or otherwise. They will continue to lie, cheat, steal, and stuff ballot boxes any way they can. And further, attack, demonize, and destroy the livelihood and lives of those who dare to oppose them (i.e. hold traditional American values). No, they will not give up; they will just become louder and more totalitarian.
Yup. ^^
Yup. Yup. ^^^^
Trump is a quintessential American and that is why the left hates him. He is Al Czervik.
I totally agree with Rand. He’d be way better off with independents if he could simply cut in half the amount of cringeworthy comments, daily fight-picking, etc. I don’t mind the president being aggressive, but it needs to be done intelligently and thoughtfully, and that ain’t Trump. His style is to blurt/tweet out every dumb thing that pops into his head. I find it quite maddening.
Keep in mind that in many cases his words are twisted out if context and our friends in the media aren’t above just flat out fabricating things as well. What’s the split on Trump being inartful and media malfeasance?
Half the time Trump takes his own words out of context or echos peoples who take them out of context to twist them to what convenient for him at the moment too.
Sure…
Agreed the left is in the terminal descent phase of their Alinksyite flight path. No holds barred and it will only get worse until they are forcibly smacked down and out of power.
The right’s problem with Trump is that he doesn’t fight by Queensbury rules. He’s an uncouth street fighter, but that is what is needed at this time and place.
We are in a cold (for now) civil war, but only the leaders on the right don’t recognize it.
I have no problem with the street fighting; it’s what I’d be doing, too. I just wish he didn’t needlessly sound like a fool so much of the time.
Well Rand their a saying
“If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is a duck. ”
He definitely sounds and acts like a moron. By now guessing you can count dozen or more people who worked in his cabinet who he picked that would concur.
Call bullshyte on the articles “He apparently does not care whether the departed write damning memoirs or join his opposition. ” —- If he doesn’t care why have them sign broad NDAs and seems to seek to enforce said NDAs. Why does he seek to destroy anyone who speaks, and seemingly holds fire from the wimp McMaster when stated McMaster would hold off his memoir unless Trump attacks him.
Half the fuel for the hatred of Trump is his fan base, Much like Patriots fans. They can’t admit to their object of fandom having any wrong doing. Just this past week has patriots fans going from “Due process” “Innocent till proven guilty” to “He a scum bag, their be better with out him”.
Trump is the emperor with no clothes.
Has his administration done some good sure but honestly how much can you attribute to Trump himself, if Trump doesn’t have Cocaine Mitch his 2 biggest accomplishments would go to naught. I always have a problem attributing Economics situation to a president never liked it with Bill Clinton. He just happens to be in charge for 33 months of 125 or so months of growth. He also has been ramping up the deficit during a period of growth that Think be tough to find a equivalent to. Would we be still in growth with out the deficit spending ?
As a Patriots fan, your diatribe sounds a lot like “You hate us cause you ain’t us” to me. I don’t see any other team or set of team fans out there behaving any differently if they had the Pats record of success.
I say 49ers Fans had similar success and don’t think acted the same . Patriots fans right now are 80’s Raiders fans “Just win Baby”
My NFL team is the Patriots but I am disgusted with the NFL, Roger Goodel, Kraft inc/ Belichick , and the pats fandom (aka Portnoy, Thorton and crew) that have only watched a handful of games since 2016. NFL has been awful hoggy can’t wait for the slaughter with far too many 2nd/3rd generation ownership.
Starting with Pats fan will deny any wrong doing in Spygate , Yes others fans will over play the hand with the bogus story about filming practices, but still doesn’t excuse the Patriots cloak and dagger operation they were running with the inside out patriots gear to hide logos and the Kraft Production credential if the Camera men were questioned and filming the promotional material for Kraft Productions. Patriots knew what they were doing was against the rules. Then fans overreaction to the punishment when they got punished less than did Dallas or Redskin for violating a None rule. Why didn’t the player association raise all hell i never know oh wait I do the PA is dominated by short timers so losing a season hurts them far more than they gain .
Then Deflategate their was clearly a conspiracy with the text messages yes (though the NFL didn’t punish for that). Was the whole thing overblown yea. Did the NFL Manipulate the story sure hiding and leaking misleading details. The Pats played same game and worked up their fans in the end it was just big wrestling work that ended up putting more money in all involved pockets. Brady riding his deflate-gate Crucified Martyrdom in New England takes full advantage with TB12 selling snake oil. Patriots and Portnoy sell more merch defending the wall. The NFL goes on to have one of their highest watched seasons. That the NFL squandered afterwards
My NFL team is the Patriots but…
Really? Besides Goodell (agreed), that a pretty disqualifying “but…” Nobody is forcing you to be a Pats fan. If you dislike them so much why hang around? What’s wrong with being a 49er’s fan other than the W/L ratio? heh.
Actually this season the 49’s are doing well so far…
I was talking about Brady idol, the Joe Montana / Steve Young/Jerry Rice Era of dominance. Can’t imagine the 49ers fans of back then being as insufferable as pat fans and obstinate of seeing fault. Though always liked Jimmy G quick release just need to stay up right for a season.
And you talking about Kraft’s boy Roger Goodell always find it funny that the Patriots fans hate him so much after all he did for them keeping them from becoming the Hartford Patriots (Though might have been as much be a favor to the Maras). Krafts pushed for him as Comish, help empowered him, got the CBA signed that gave him the powers that the fans detest. And when shit was going down trying their best to deflect the blame of the NFL office from the comish to other Enemies of the state like lower level ex Jets employees and lawyers. Point their fan base ire to behind the scenes enemies.
Hey was a Big fan of Teddy B, Matty Light, Troy Brown , Vince Wilfork, Adam Vinatieri , and Pre-G Tom Brady, those were likable Patriot teams. Than the killers , rapist and assortment of felons and Paper straw Pushers they brought in since 2007 , forget about building a wall on the southern border build it around Foxborough.
“The right’s problem with Trump is that he doesn’t fight by Queensbury rules. He’s an uncouth street fighter, but that is what is needed at this time and place.”
Neither does the left; they are dirty fighters to the core. Republicans who want to practice effete drawing gentlemanly courtesy won’t work against such. A Pu*&y usually loses a fight against a thug that’s why it is better to be the later in a fight than the former. Trump is more interested in winning (thank God) than losing graciously like an old style tennis match. Nations rise and fall based on elections the stakes are too high for old school Republican aristocratic pretense. Trump should use the tools the law allows to win, fight t he dirty fight as needed; he owes it to his supporters.
Rand, think of it as a parallel to Forbidden Planet. (Spoiler Alert: if you haven’t seen this SciFi classic, please do so and then read this post).
His smartphone is the equivalent to the Krell’s brain booster. It’s elevated only his Id to work the idea teleportation machine that is the Internet.
Only the Id can be expressed in 150 words or less.
Now that you mentioned Forbidden Planet… (As David cautioned, this is also spoiler alert. So if you haven’t seen this movie, please do so before reading this post).
The Krell were wiped out overnight because monsters from their ids–ancient demons and primitive emotions that dwelled in their subconscious minds–also had access to their just-activated, fantastic machine that they had created (with all good intentions) to manifest matter from just thought.
Today we witness those monsters on a daily basis let loose almost exclusively by leftists who have not only been empowered to spew their otherwise subconscious hate (that in another time people would have kept to themselves), but encouraged to do so by the echo chambers of the mainstream media, the educational system, Hollywood, Late Night TV, and social media that have thrown open the gates of hell and continuously fan the flames. To leftists, it is now actually considered a virtue to verbally and physically attack those with ideas they simply disagree with. The redness in tooth and claw is even more evident when accompanied by anonymity such as seen in social media and Antifa.
After what I have observed for the past few years, I maintain that the Krell would never have built that machine, because they would have first evolved through the stage that we are now in, and therefore would have recognized the profound danger of giving anyone access to the power of such a machine.
Today, we do not have the Krell machine, per se, but we have one in another form: the US Government. The last thing we need is to allow the left to be in control of the virtually unlimited power of that machine. They have shown their hand; we have witnessed their primal, id-driven hate and venom. They are totalitarian in their demands, mean and viscous in their actions, irrational in their thinking, and extremely dangerous to any who do not agree with them.
Donald Trump is a lightning rod that the left, and never-Trumpers, are enabled and encouraged to strike with impunity. But some of us recognize that he is the bulwark keeping the monsters from the machine. And despite the onslaught from all sides, he stands resolute in that defense. Unlike the left, his weapon is not the imposition of an all-powerful government; it is merely Twitter.
