A new documentary about her career which, sadly has been over for a decade. I never saw her live, but I did see her in the audience at McCabes, once, in better days (the 80s). I forget who the act was.

Unfortunately, she suffers from Parkinsonism, which is why her career has dropped off…
What a terrific essay, thanks for sharing. I will definitely check out the documentary.
Smith’s Spotify list is almost exactly what I would have put down, though I would have included “Blue Bayou.”
I always loved her voice, and her later work was indeed wonderful. Interestingly, “Different Drum” was written and first performed by Michael Nesmith of “The Monkees” fame. His version of it is dreadful, but it does jolt one into realizing that it was a man’s song about a woman. That Ronstadt was able to belt it out so beautifully, and convincingly as a woman’s song, is just another tribute to her talent.
i really like different drum!
Truly a great and varied talent whether in “Pirates of Penzance” with Kevin Kline or singing big band hits with Nelson Riddle.
The hometown premiere of this documentary is here in Tucson on Friday, 13 Sept. Her nephew will be performing, and there are rumors that Linda will attend. We have our tickets!
