Yes, the Founders are being unjustly vilified here, and as Glenn notes, “Most of the people loudly criticizing western civilization over race today would happily have been slaveowners themselves.”
The desire to be part of the ruling class of a socialist society is essentially the yearning to be a slavemaster.
“Most of the people loudly criticizing western civilization over race today would happily have been slaveowners themselves.” Indeed–given how contemptuous of liberty they are now.
If CostCo started selling slave-girls tomorrow, most of the male descendants of slave would be right there in line with the rest of us, waiting for the sale to begin. It’s why no one wants us to have robots.
I have worked a slave once. Work release where any crap I came up with was better than getting sent back to actual prison. I never want to do that again. It’s not good for the boss either to have absolute authority over people.
I come from an unsavory background, so have friends and relatives who’ve done meaningful time (for armed robbery, not just drugs). This has helped me have a jaundiced view of human beings (noted humorously above). As part of the runup to the MeToo movement, someone came up with the stat that one-third of men admitted if they could rape women without consequence, they would. I had two responses to that: 1) the other two guys are liars, and 2) there are more honest men in the world than I thought. I don’t think I’m wrong. When it comes to these sort of things, men are like vampires.
